He's a seriously underrated player, and I will miss him if this is it for him in Vancouver. Sucks they weren't able to find a compromise on a modest extension, but with him hitting a career high in goals the writing has been on the wall for him to cash in in free agency.

They must be close on a trade for another center if they're comfortable trading their 3c while still trying to make the playoffs.

I mentioned yesterday that the Leafs may have been looking at Suter. I wouldn't be shocked if the Canucks traded him for one of their bottom 6 forwards signed beyond this year or one of their upcoming RFAs + a draft pick.

really like suter as a player, but if he isn't taking the evans contract or something close, and they can get a return close to what frederic just got for boston... time to move him

carolina would make sense

Suter is a guy you keep if the money is reasonable (~3Mish), but with the cap going up and him coming here under cap squeeze circumstances, I don't blame him for chasing a higher pay day. And I think he'll get it in the offseason.

I'll always remember game 6 :')

I re-watch the series mini-move that the NHL did frequently. The slow motion on his goal is sublime.

Usually I'd agree with this.. but they have already done that with Joshua, Blueger, Connor. On top of they have sherwood, garland for another year each. they can't keep signing bottom six guys to term.
It's partyly why we have no offense. They have too many of them and end up playing them in the top 6.
They needs to ditch some of these guys for cap, then acquire or severly overpay Jul 1 for a real top 6 player

Lost in all the chaos is how great that Pittsburgh deal came to be.

A first and a a longshot prospect to get rid of $4M this year and next and acquire MP (#3/4D) and DOC (big speedy, third liner with PK/OT utility).

Oilers just gave up two prospects, 2nd and a 4th for a third line UFA who has 15 points in 57 games this year.

Regardless of how the season is going, leveraging their first round pick and striking early in a seller's market makes this transaction amazing for us.

I was on board with keeping Suter and re-signing him, until someone posted his Edge stats a while back. iirc he was sub 50th percentile in all the skating metrics. While on the one hand it shows how a high IQ can make a player look fleeter of foot than they are, on the other if I'm spending $3m+ I'd rather add more speed to the roster.

2nd is useless as I still think we need to aim for the playoffs (not to the extent of costly rentals though). But as part of a deal to add that elusive "impact forward " or even just a similar level RHC then I'm on board.

suter is a surprisingly stocky strong frame guy in real life. he does not particularly initiate rough stuff but also does not disappear in it. if we move him it leaves a bigger hole at centre than i think we realize because blueger is game but does get knocked around in heavy traffic and chytil does not appear to thrive in it at all so far. i also don't think aman or raty can play up from the fourth line.

Suter is clutch. Lots of good memories of him. Hope he finds a lading place with a multi year deal.

Good player and seems like a solid person. Humble and hardworking. Would be happy to give him the Evans contract.

If the price is right, it's worth flipping him. They can't replace him directly but Raty could potentially fill that role.
Highly unlikely, certainly in the short-term. Suter has become a legitimate elite defensive center, while chipping in ~15 goals like clockwork.

Yeah, if Aqua wants to make the playoffs, trading Suter doesn't help. He's been chronically underrated his whole career.

With the Evans extension, I was kinda hoping they could find a reasonable deal to extend Suter. He's a guy who the league is still going to undervalue relative to his actual on-ice contributions.

I’d sign Suter to that deal. He’s an extremely useful player for this team, and not as easily replaced as some might think, IMO.
The Evans deal, absolutely. Would be a slam dunk to get Suter around that number.
