Maybe a guy like Hendrix Lapierre if Washington is looking to add for a playoff run? Still young, good pedigree with some NHL experience but hasn't really broke through with the Caps yet...decent numbers in the AHL though.
He's an outstanding skater and probably ready to be a full time NHLer (or close to it).

Liked Lapierre since his draft year.

Don't think there's room for him in Washington so to me, he would be expendable in the right trade.

I know everyone loves to speculate about the Devils collecting all the Hughes, but if I were them I’d be worried about Jack’s longevity.

Besides his ability to make it through every regular season—that shoulder is going to become a target in every playoff series.
I don't know about everyone, but i can think of at least one.

yup, he's got a big old target on his back now, no doubt about that.

Who am I to second guess the Lightning but what they gave up feels steep compared to what they got back, relative to past trade markets. Guess we will see if this is a crazy sellers’ market this year or if they overpaid again like they did with Jeannot.

certainly very steep, but Gourde has won there before.

One major concern when you make an addition at the trade deadline to contend is how does the player actually fit?

There's very little of that with Gourde.

Like any contender, if you win its all worth it, if you don't 2 1sts can turn into some very good players

I wonder, is Allvin frantically calling Dimbo asking for a copy of the latter's "we ran out of time" speech?

Also of note, when I type in "Allvin" it is auto corrected to "All in". Is that the universe sending us a message of some sort?

If there was retention on Bjorkstrand I would have said it was fair.

It's steep but also addresses their needs, they don't really have any holes now.

These types of trades have worked for them so I'm not really surprised they're going for it again.

It already seems that way. Aside from the Kraken trade there's also

- Trent Frederic (15 points in 57 games) + Max Jones for a 2nd + 4th
- Gustav Nyquist (21 points in 57 games, 35 years old) for a 2nd
- Lindgren and Vesey for a 2nd + 4th + Parssinen + de Haan

That was my feeling too. Though I guess the flip side is with the UFA deals we are about to see, Bjorkstrand at his full contract rate will feel like retention.

Major missed opportunity if we're getting greedy about playoffs (looking at Frankie) in a lost season. I don't even care about prospects or futures for right now, flip that shit. But if we lose Boeser for nothing when we could have added flipped assets for something meaningful that's a huge missed opportunity.

Now even as (I presume) the world's biggest Jyrki Lumme fan, I'm surprised to see you have that one above the 1994 deadline deal, or even Mogilny-Morrison, just for notoriety alone. I don't necessarily disagree, just Lumme took a few years to truly be appreciated, whereas the others are often cited as the more-or-less direct stepping stone to something big.

I prioritized long-term impact over pretty much anything else.

The thing with the Canucks considering trading players, other than Suter, none are playing particularly well, so it's not like there's this huge downgrade or loss if Boeser is traded. I don't mean he's likely to play poorly for the coming few years, just whatever is wrong with this team, he's part of it.

It's not a given the Canucks make the playoffs with Boeser, nor is it the case that they miss without him. The way he's playing, it seems more like a wash to be honest.

Have to agree with this. Try something new. Might as well find someone who is better defensively and roll the dice with "defense wins championships" for a year.

Anyone else entirely tired of the "we ran out of time huehuehueh' every page or two?

Like, we get it. You hate Benning but also miss when he was here and you could just mine for likes by dropping one or two specific and oft repeated quotes or references.

I'm glad he's gone too and you know what? I don't really think about him anymore. It feels pretty good, might be worth a try.

Also, let's show some patience. It's an odd market this year. There's like 11 teams with a genuine shot at the cup and only like 7 teams that should definitely sell and even a couple of them seem to be unsure if they will.

All of this converges into the probability that a team might make a surprising selling move to capitalize like the Blues did a few years ago with Paul Stastny, or Kevin Shattenkirk, or the Capitals with Orlov IIRC.

He isn't available or anything but reading up on Cody Barlow he seems like a really solid fit for the Canucks top 6 & Tocchets system.

Hopefully we start seeing some panic moves happen after Tampa loaded up
