Filip Forsberg.

Sell Boeser for whatever, add whatever to make it happen.
Take back Marchessault too if it makes the acquisition cost significantly cheaper.

Pretty sure I've read previously Forsberg talk about his enjoyment playing with EP1.

I'd trade him for the Blues 3rd.
This is approximately the return that I'd expect. Soucy's having a tough season. Canucks ditched Hamonic to Ottawa for a 3rd he had basically the same cap hit %, the same remaining contract duration and was approximately the same calibre of player in the same situation, as well as being similar in age (one year older) to what Soucy is now.

He can't crosscheck McDavid in the face if they're teammates.

...or CAN he?

I'm not so concerned about his evaluation of MP as a #5, I think we can all agree that is unreasonably low. But like him or not, Seravalli is one of the most connected people in the sports, so if he say MP was untradable at one point, there could be some truth to it. I find it hard to believe but I also doubt he would completely make that up for no reason?

He was being paid $4m and playing 16 minutes a night for the first couple of years of his current contract when he was 23/24. So yeah, he was probably untradeable then.

But he broke out for the last 3 seasons. He's mostly played with Letang and Karlsson so it's kind of hard to evaluate his individual impact but he's helped both players drive better results when with them.

I could see how a hot take machine like Seravelli would say he's a sidekick, but the numbers say he's actually been more of a babysitter.

So they pretty much knew they'd be getting a 1st in a JT or EP trade.. why not use their own 1st for this M.Pettersson deal months ago, and actually ice a serious roster for a while?

Now the D looks solid on paper, but who cares? Forward group looks like a tank effort, and they are well on their way to missing the playoffs.

You answered your own question. It's suicide for management to miss the playoffs and then not even have their first round pick at the draft.

I'm a bit hesitant to trade Soucy. We finally have some depth on D, plus I'm on the fence as to whether it would be better for D-Petey to go back to the AHL and dominate, vs being annihilated on a pair with Juulsen (could be like putting Hutton with Gudbranson type of damage). Furthermore, I feel he could return to form if given #4/5 type of deployment

Pettersson was rumoured to be available at the same time the Penguins traded Marino but if I recall correctly no one wanted him. That was a flat cap year though where teams where cap space was tight.

Soucy trade makes sense. The emergence of EP25 and the steady play of Forbort makes him expendable.

Hughes - Willander
EP25 - Hronek
MP3 - Myers
Forbort - Juulsen/Mancini

Kudryavtsev/Mynio are also on the fast track.

Soucy for 3rd + 5th , Boeser for 1st + prospect is my guess before the deadline. Would love to move Debrusk as well.

Two rookies in the top 4 huh....

Well that would line up well with the timeline. He was playing less than 16 minutes per night the previous season as a #5. It was the next season when he broke out.

Similar to Satiar Shah, a guy I actually enjoy listening to, but when he has talked about Pettersson in the past, and how he's not sure he's even an upgrade on Soucy, you can tell he doesn't watch many out of market games and to take his player evaluations with a grain of salt.

Exactly. Defence are notoriously difficult to judge and figure out what is going to work in one NHL situation or another. There are not a lot of options available. No offence to Satiar Shah, I like listening to him as well, but I don't really trust he knows how to evaluate defenseman properly on this scale.

Appears i'm not the only one who see's it this way.

Around Christmas he posted a JT Miller trade proposal that was laughably bad that I wish I would have taken a screenshot. He was universally ripped for it so bad that he just deleted the tweet.

A three way trade with the Canucks coming away with something like a 3rd for Miller.
