Canucks, and specifically the newcomers, played well last game, which is encouraging. But keep in mind it was against a tired Wings team playing their 3rd game in 4 night and 2nd half of a back to back. I would dial back a little on hyping up Chytil/MP/DoC just based on sample size. Let's see how they fare for the next few weeks before we decide what we need.
Marner would be awesome, but I don't see why he would sign here? Wasn't there a rumor earlier this season that if he does leave Toronto, he would go play in Chicago with Bedard?Living in Ontario, I watch a lot of Mitch Marner. I agree with the sentiment that his playoff failures are as much a team thing as they are an individual one. If he is available, the Canucks should trade for his rights, offer him an 8-year contract and play him along Petey. Add a re-signed Drew O'Connor (or Joshua) to play left wing on that line and let them cook. Such a line would dominate defensively and, potentially, dominate offensively. If the chemistry isn't there, Marner can carry his own line with an inferior centre. If THAT doesn't work, the Canucks can look to move Petey (understanding the return may be limited by his NMC). Marner can handle this market, is an excellent 2-way player and would be an excellent addition.
