Canucks, and specifically the newcomers, played well last game, which is encouraging. But keep in mind it was against a tired Wings team playing their 3rd game in 4 night and 2nd half of a back to back. I would dial back a little on hyping up Chytil/MP/DoC just based on sample size. Let's see how they fare for the next few weeks before we decide what we need.

Living in Ontario, I watch a lot of Mitch Marner. I agree with the sentiment that his playoff failures are as much a team thing as they are an individual one. If he is available, the Canucks should trade for his rights, offer him an 8-year contract and play him along Petey. Add a re-signed Drew O'Connor (or Joshua) to play left wing on that line and let them cook. Such a line would dominate defensively and, potentially, dominate offensively. If the chemistry isn't there, Marner can carry his own line with an inferior centre. If THAT doesn't work, the Canucks can look to move Petey (understanding the return may be limited by his NMC). Marner can handle this market, is an excellent 2-way player and would be an excellent addition.
Marner would be awesome, but I don't see why he would sign here? Wasn't there a rumor earlier this season that if he does leave Toronto, he would go play in Chicago with Bedard?

He will need 27pts in his last 30 games to get to 60 and it's looking like he will have to feast in garbage time to get to 20 goals. For 11.6 million and 7 more years of it?

It's not positive and it's not equal value
But JT
But line mates
But Tocchet
But tendonitis
But balding medication sides

If the Canucks put him on waivers right now, do you think he won't get picked up?

First of all, a lot of people (fans) need to take a breath and go for a walk and get some fresh air lol. Yes, this year has been a let down to say the least, but people clamoring for Tocchet or Allvin's/Rutheerfords head need to relax. I have faith in this group but no one is perfect and one thing this management group does is admit it's mistakes and tries to rectify them via trades. There is going to be no rebuild and they will run with Pettersson for a bit to see if he can "find" himself, which I think he will.

I would like to see them move Boeser (one of my fave Canucks) because I would like to see a different style played by Vancouver. As a an Elite soccer coach I always have promoted "offense" and "attacking". Last game the Canucks played, Chytil and O'Connor brought some speed to the lineup. The Canucks overall, I do not think are a slow team but a couple of players are average or less and the backend (as we all know) have troublepass out of their end. Marcus will improve this I believe and even D-Petey will aid in this and also the young D (Willander Mynio, Kyudratsev, etc) are quality puck movers. A backend like this will make the Canucks "faster".

I always like high tempo and fast entertaining hockey but it's not ideal for playoff hockey. As a fan, do you want to watch high speed and action or tight a tight defensive team. Finding that balance will be difficult for the management group but I have hope for them. I also believe that Tocchet can coach an offensive team and adapt.

Cheers

Agreed except for the bolded. There’s been little to no evidence that this would be true.

Only 3 teams have the cap space right now

The point is he's a negative value asset on his contract and like i said in my original post you're not trading him right now as a depressed asset...would be a poor decision

So you think the trade that was on the table with Carolina involved the Canucks paying the Canes to take Petey on? Because he had negative value?

It's laughable.

You're not trading E.Pettersson because he's a negative value asset. Gonna have to wait that one out.
I think we screwed ourselves with M.Pettersson. He's got us between a rock and hard place and we don't need him long term anyway with DPetey. We're not contending for anything with this crap roster. Was a unnecessary devaluation of that draft pick into another OEL type situation. I would be re shopping him back into the market asap
Mercer or Cozens would be s smart move if they could make something happen

I think you're in a whole lot of denial here. These notions are absolutely off the wall. They are not going to trade M.Petterson, or Chytil minutes after they just traded for them. Like ... what the f#*k lol? Everyone and their bird knows we're still trying to compete and that's not changing anytime soon. C'mon Sting, you know this. I'm not sure what Chytil for Cozens accomplishes for either club or why Buffalo would do this. Cozens is 2 years younger but ... meh ... why?

The Rangers are in last place? What? That pick is currently 12 and they are trending toward playoffs, not the other way around.

If you do a giant retool and cross your fingers that the Rangers pick is high, Hughes walks, end of story.

That pick probably ends up being about being 15th overall. Either way it don't matter at all for us anymore.

Tbh, I don’t get this whole “bringing QH friends to keep him happy”. If the opportunity presents itself where NJ makes sense for him, he’s obviously not going to choose his friends over his literal blood siblings he’s close with.

I've never get these friends angle comments. It's laughable. NHL hockey players all have a strong sense of self and all think/desire to be the best. They don't determine their hockey future by trying to buddy up with a hockey friend above all else. There are way bigger concerns and hockey takes you where it takes you. Friends are not high on the list after you get out of peewee.

If you're only worried about playing with buddies you likely haven't made it anywhere. Did Petey care about Dahlen? No, not in the least. At the top level, you can't let your personal desires, like friendships, get in the way of smart hockey decisions. Of course there are a few players here and there like Suter and Parise who do this when they've reached a certain place in their careers. Rodgers and Adams in the NFL.

However, Quinn is going to let hockey matters decide where he plays, not who he likes hanging out with in hockey circles. Josh Norris is a pretty expensive token of appreciation lol.

Just so people know hockey players have (best) friends outside of NHL hockey players for the most part. Most of these hockey friendships are more like acquaintances. I highly doubt hanging out with Josh Norris is going to make Quinn's decision on his future for him. It's a nice little bonus but it's not a prime factor sports.

I just don’t understand what the hell happened to Soucy here.

Forget his poor defensive play and playing 2-3 more minutes than his career average this season.

He had snarl, physicality, crease clearing ability that got him into the NHL in the first place. None of that here at all. Just so non chalant and laissez faire. Taking bad penalties and then chuckling his way to the penalty box. No emotion. No urgency or passion. He really could’ve been a fan favourite. He was someone I really wanted for a number of years and was extremely happy we actually signed a big defenseman like him with snarl. Zero of that here.

Yeah, I kind of saw this happening recently, especially with the emergence of Dpetey, and with forbort being solid.

And with Willander coming in on the right side by the end of the season.

He should probably get around a third or fourth round pick

Agree with the others who mentioned Maccelli as a buy-low reclamation project. Really creative player, could have some chemistry with Petey. Very efficient even-strength scorer prior to tumbling down the lineup this season.

Soucy for Maccelli? Lol. Roughly equal salary, one year left on each deal.

If someone is to offer a can of magic beans for Juulsen I'd take that deal without a second thought.

Has to be Canada-made magic beans though.

Friedman says "I wonder if this thing will happen" and then Brough tweets "this thing is happening, according to Friedman". Vancouver hockey news in a nutshell.

If true that's Taj level ridiculousness from an accredited media member. Not acceptable and he should be called out. Friedman should put him on blast himself.

I’m not even sure it is coming from Friedman. The Dhaliwal tweet saying “I wonder” is a reply to a tweet from yesterday quoting Friedman. Is it coming from Dhaliwal or Friedman?

I mean a # 5 signed for a premium, not surprised he's available.

He was always a #5 in Minny, Seattle, hell even last year he was a 5.

Once you get a good 2nd pair dman on left side, naturally he becomes a bit too expensive for the 3rd pair, especially when you have cheaper options like Forbort and especially younger options like Dpetey and more prospects in the pipeline.

The same thing will apply to Myers once Willander becomes a top 4.

Soucy is from Alberta and has spent his career exclusively with Western Conference teams, wonder if he'd be willing to waive to one of the shittier Pacific teams (Seattle, Anaheim, SJ).
