Who needs skilled forwards when you have Rick Tocchet as your coach? Let’s run 12 grinders, 6 top pairing defenders, pray vezina Demko is back, and see what happens.
Pretty much every Tocchet coached team, low scoring and losers
Well let’s make this news even more exciting and they are working on an Allvin classic trade then trade again. Trade with NYI to collect assets, then trade some of those assets to the Blues for Schenn? Thomas? Do the Blues need a #1 D? Does the world still see Dobson as a #1? Why is he even on the block? Has Lou finally lost his marbles?
Brock might be a nice fit sliding in beside Horvat.
Part of me wonders if they know it's going to be impossible to get true talent at C and are instead trying to build a team like the 2010s Predators.
There are many teams that did what was necessary to get their stars.
A planned tank doesn't last a decade.
Would the Canucks miss a 100 point player in this system? WAIT they don't have any now and when they did they become 60-70 point players and the team still lost.
So in reality all the team has is an over paid forward and a subject to blame or an ongoing story to divert attention and sell hope of coming back, just wait a little longer, just a bit more, next year then we won't trade because we won't get enough in return.
As an example of one planned tank. Pittsburgh dropped 48 pts in one year and got lucky in that there was a strike but that led to Malkin and Crosby, I can't not mention then Tampa's tank for 2 years that got them Stamkos and Hedman. Planned for. A 4 year plan followed up with a decade and more of playoffs and a couple of cups
It isn't likely there is a trade for a McKenna or Misa or Celebrini or ...... but there is drafting one or two.
Where did the Sedins, Linden, Kesler, Bure, Demko, Hughes or EP40 com from? Trades? And how long did some of those stay around? On average 8 years with Linden coming and going and the Sedins for 17 years.
If this team dropped 10 wins for next year they are in the Mckenna, Misa draft chance. Especially if they trade Hughes, who is likely to move on anyway the first chance he gets a choice and trade him, like they did Bure, for the first overall which some teams would do for a full year of trying to get him to sign his next massive contract.
One bad year, next year, one massive trade next year and the team MIGHT be the best it has been since 2010 mostly due to having so many in the same age group. IMO it would be a coup to get M&M in one year.
