True, but if only 3 teams out of 32 are doing it, there's something to that.

Why did every team adopt the drop pass entry that frustrates fans? Because it works. 4 forwards and 1 defender works. Some teams actually run 5 forwards. It's not like it couldn't work though.
It all depends on the roster construction. The only reason most teams run 4 forwards is because their most skilled players are forwards. If we were to trade Pettersson for Dobson, we'd be in a unique circumstance because our 3 most skilled players (aside from maybe Boeser) would be defencemen.

Islanders are probably targeting Backlund. Seems like much more of a Lou player and the Canucks and Islanders would be bad trade partners.

With Barzal potentially out for the season, there’s no assets that would make sense for the Canucks. Dobson doesn’t make sense with Hughes here, and the role he’d be playing is better suited for Hronek who is on a much cheaper contract than what Dobson is going to get.

I'm a little annoyed they moved the Rangers pick instead of their own pick. That could very well be a lottery pick next season.
I highly doubt that pick is not going the Penguins this year. A few teams close the Ranger in the standings seem to be falling off with injuries.

I mean, I get wanting him traded… but he literally told management he wanted to stay…
I mean, when he ultimately controlled where he would play, he was noncommittal, and when there were rumours he might be traded to Buffalo, he wanted to stay. Context is key.

Either that or it’s actually Barzal coming back, which could make sense given he’s been unhappy lately, but he’d either have to be back after 4 nations break or we’d be punting the season.

Another problem with Barzal is he’s not really much of a centre.

I don’t really see him as a target and I don’t think the Islanders have anything else on their roster or in their pipeline that’s really all that appealing.

Only one man can make this trade.

This Dobson rumour is worrying. How much of a benefit would he be if Hronek and/or Myers are shoved down the depth chart? Neither have been bad this season, when not anchored by a certain someone.

Pageau, Nelson, Barzal....or Horvat....would all be better targets.

But if we're talking replacement centers, Seattle seems to have a bunch of them. Gourde is injured and UFA, so I feel could likely be had for a song. McCann and Stephenson are more who I'd be looking at, but wouldn't be as rentals, given what I imagine their cost to be.

Call me crazy I say nothing happens with Pettersson or Dobson, any trade discussions happening are probably around Brock.

It’s a nice thought. Usually when the rumours become this specific there’s something to them. Boeser doesn’t the Islanders MO, though.

I assume it’s a nothing rumour as Lou doesn’t operate when info leaks.

But I would see the sense in getting Dobson as he is the best single asset you could probably get. He could be a piece that nets you a top 6 C
