Hughes Myers

It's been effective and keeps Hronek available to run his own pairing with MPetey to maximize his potential.

Roll with Forbort Soucy as a 3rd pair.

I think Hughes-Myers, MP3-Hronek, and Forbort-Soucy is how I would do it. Maybe swap Soucy and Myers if you need to, but Myers has consistently gotten big minutes and assignments for years.

I have concerns about Forbort-Soucy being able to effectively breakout the puck. Both are best when paired with a partner whose default reaction is a controlled breakout. With both looking to just put the puck off the glass, it could lead to far too many sustained possessions against.

The most success last year came when they had 3 effective pairs. I don’t see Forbort-Soucy as an effective pair.

How would you guys configure the defensive pairings when Hughes comes back?

Surprisingly, I’d probably elevated Soucy and have him beside Hughes. This keeps the other two pairs together and has 5 PKers on the roster. Would rotate between Soucy and Hronek situationally.

If possible, I’d set up a rotation between Forbort and D-Petey. Would also treat that as opponent dependant as well.
This works

The very deliberately accumulated twelve million in tdl cap space is maybe being underrated ..

That's a huge amount and significantly more (3-5X) than most other teams.

After playing and hanging at 4nations, go all in for Filip Forsberg, idk how but it's a perfect time & fit.
Good point. He really would be a perfect fit. Do you think he'd even be available though? And at what cost?

Forbort-Hronek has been an awesome pairing and you don't break it up under any circumstances.

Hughes-Soucy
Forbort-Hronek
Pettersson-Myers

Only shuffle the pairs situationally (i.e. Hughes-Hronek if we're trailing late). I don't think this is a tough choice at all honestly.

I’d be surprised if they do this. Hughes, Hronek, Petterson Sr. and Myers are top four in ice time by a country mile. They’ll all continue to eat 20-25 mins per game.

I don't see the need to keep Forbort and Hronek together.

Pettersson - Myers are going to play a shit ton at evens and be your matchup pair.

Let Hughes go back with Hronek.

Just spoon feed Forbort - Soucy 12-14 minutes a night. PK, etc. I don't want to assume that pairing won't work until we see them play. And if it doesn't, then you put Pettersson in for Forbort. Forbort has been a monster recently, but I don't think we need to be sacrificing Hughes - Hronek to make him fit. I just don't see the obvious advantage there in how we match up

this ^^

Yup.

It'll go Hughes-Hronek, MPettersson-Myers, Forbort-Soucy.

Everyone wants EP2 to play but it just isn't going to be his time yet.

I think they still might do it if they want to keep a puck mover out at all times, but if they do you're going to see 4 pairings realistically.

In that scenario, Hughes-Hronek will end up out there as a double shift once every 5 or so shifts to limit the amount of ES ice time Soucy & Forbort play. Ice time at ES will still heavily be tilted towards the top 4, but done in a different way.

Everyone loves an impactful rookie (especially during a period of extreme turmoil at the top of the roster), but you're right....and it's probably good for EP25's development. It also give them an opportunity to try him with Mancini in Abby.

After 4 nations we will have a ton of cap space available. Which teams that look like they will miss the playoffs have 1 or 2 C that makes a lot of money that they will want to move on from? My guess would be the ones with this year and next left on their contracts. I am not a stats guy, just throwing the guys that kinda fit the bill on a list.

Evans - Montreal
Laughton - Philly
Anaheim and Seattle each have a few guys that fit that mold...?

I see it this way as well. This has the added benefit of being a really good defensive unit with a natural top four.

Anaheim has 3 high potential centers, Zegras, Carlsson, and McTavish. Their left-side doesn't seem to strong tbh (LaCombe, Zellweger). I don't know how highly they rate LaCombe but if they are looking for LHD the Canucks are in a position of strength. They would want prospects that are close to NHL ready or NHL ready.

EP25 + Lekkerimaki for McTavish
It would hurt, but at least you get a high potential center in. Someone that could potentially replace Miller.

Mynio + Mueller for Zegras
Bet on Zegras doing better in a more competitive environment. Zegras must be worth close to nothing anyway so he might be a good shout.

Anaheim will move on from Zegras (who's arguably a cap dump at this point) before their two stud centers. I don't think he would do better in another environment and think he's an awful target. McTavish would be a dream but Anaheim has no reason to move him.

Be nice to see what they've got in Mancini. As has been said, he has the tools but he's raw. I'd like to see him get 10 games at least before the end of the year. I'd also like to see Willander get 6 or 7 games but that might not happen if they're on the playoff bubble.

In a perfect world we'd see the following starting next season.

Hughes-Hronek
M. Petterson - Myers
E. Petterson - Mancini

Clearly D-Petey and Mancini need to show more before they can be penciled in but it's not out of the realm of possibility. With their size, mobility, and physicality this pairing could be very effective in third pairing minutes in a Tocchet system. With what appears to be a very solid top 4, they can be sheltered a little.

I don't think we'll be sure how close Willander is until he gets some NHL games. He could surprise but I expect to see him start in the AHL next season.

Man if Nashville would finally f***ing rebuild..

I think Zegras definitely needs a fresh start, if the price is reasonably low, could be a good buy low candidate.

It's easier to send the kids down so that is what they will do. However, forbort-Soucy could well give us the substandard pick movement that bedeviled the team until ep and MP arrived a free weeks ago. No doubt it will be tested out while junior is in the ahl

We all know Nashville will hang onto they're players until they have no value left. Feel bad for them. They need a scorched earth rebuild and have a few pieces that could accelerate that process.
