Just because we were talking about the rarity of 1C for 1C trades in the last thread, and both @MarkusNaslund19 and I brought up the 1991-92 BUF-NYI blockbuster, it's worth mentioning another time it did happen, the year before:

Ron_Francis_Trade.jpg

Cullen wouldn't have been the Penguins' 1C if Lemieux were healthy, but he was the top-scoring center on that team and topped 100 points. Teenage me thought the Whalers were the clear winners in this trade (I always liked Zalapski for his name alone and wrongly thought Francis was way older than Cullen), and it turned out to be the opposite.
That trade destroyed the Whalers franchise in a way that wasn't even completely resolved by the time they moved to Carolina. Indeed, it likely played an indirect role in them having to move.

He wrote an article on the Canucks last season as well. Has done so every once in a while. But pretty much, he stopped writing about hockey a long time ago. Not entirely sure at who's request he's doing this.
He said on Halford and Brough this morning that he was intrigued by the Petey + Miller situation so he put a request in for an interview with Rutherford. He shot down the idea that he was approached to handle this story.

Interesting that they did end up giving big Z everything he wanted, but still left at the end, presumably because of how long it took them to get there.

Also love how Rutherford says the price for our 1C is low but the price for what we want is high. For once I wish it could just be the other way around, like when we got Ehrhoff for basically nothing.

Buy high, sell low!

Sorry to hear about Sasson heading back down. I really thought he brought some jump to that fourth line. I guess Raty slots into his spot in the lineup.

haha the player you started your post with is literally an example of that. We got Z for almost nothing because we could take his full cap hit.

The side that’s more desperate to make a trade is at a disadvantage. And for some wild reason Rutherford has been making sure everyone knows how desperate we are. Repeatedly.

It’s like buying a flight ticket months in advance vs day before. The latter will pay through the nose.

Sportsnet panel spoke about intriguing fits for JT Miller and Friedman mentioned Colorado and also mentioned he thinks he gets traded but added JT wants to go East but you never know how things can change when something is presented. Pierre Lebrun mentioned he thinks JT would waive for Dallas which would make me think Colorado is possible.

If there's a deal to be made with the Avs would have to imagine Calum Ritchie is the prize the Canucks would be after (would think Colorado would want to do Middlestat, a 1st/2nd and a lesser prospect)

  • Satisfied that Tocchet has done all that he can on the situation in the room
  • Tocchet is a very good coach and has dealt with a “very tough hand this year”
  • Pettersson didn’t get to the needed level coming into training camp; understands that now
  • Demko will be okay; has a lot of talent and that hasn’t gone anywhere
  • Part of the defensive struggles is that the 5 players on the ice aren’t as cohesive as in the past
  • Acknolwedges the team misses Nikita Zadorov and Ian Cole
  • Zadorov wanted 5m AAV from the Canucks, they got there, but there was still no deal
  • Tocchet talked to Zadorov and then Zadorov wanted 6 years; Canucks acquiesced and he still left
  • Need to make additions to the defence; those prices are high
  • Rutherford is doing what many have asked; be transparent

Rutherford article says defense has been "brutally inconsistent". Tocchet puts Juulsen back in line-up. Poetry.

Also, based on that article I dunno WTF Tocchet was doing with Zadorov, but he shouldn't be doing that.

I’m very on board with Mittlestadt/Colton + Ritchie package. There is literally nothing else the Avs have.

Didn’t realize how stupid people are on this site because I haven’t been here that long, but after reading the offers for Quinn on the main boards I think I finally understand….
You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy as the Trade forum.

People seem to think they can just wish-cast their ideal trades, rather than actually discussing what both teams might go for. It's like they think lowballing in the forum will transfer to real life somehow

Mason has a direct line to Aquaman. He's smart enough and been in the game long enough to not burn his bridges with contacts. This article is exactly what Aquilini wants. He is known as the "Aquilini whisperer".
