The biggest head-scratcher was when Rutherford was basically asked by reporters: "If you knew they hated each other, why did you sign them both to long-term contracts?"
The answer, if you can call it that, was while they've known for a long time they didn't get along, by retaining both their star players, they were preserving their trade options moving forward....What?
When rival teams know you're being basically 'forced' to sacrifice one of them, how that 'increase' or even 'protect' their trade value? Just another nonsensical chapter in the long-running Canuck soap opera I guess.
