Marcus Pettersson - 6"4 174 lbs
Drew O'Connor - 6"3 190 lbs
Filip Chytil - 6"3 209 lbs
Victor Mancini - 6"3 229 lbs

Can clearly see what type of player management is targeting here... 6"3 and up only
Boeser +/- for Oliver & Voronkov/Sillinger next pls.

Also I think Debrusk and Chytil speed together could become a terrific tandem.
Still hoping they trade Elias Pettersson, start fresh. This guy won’t win us anything.
Landscapes changed on that big time yesterday, with marner maybe at 13M+, keeping ep makes the most sense. And we added another top swedish player so seems even more likely.

The plan now is to add to hughes and ep, iirc Forsberg commented on how he really likes playing with ep1, that'd be the dream tier.

Honestly? Marner could be an extremely good fit. He's more a playmaker despite being a winger, which would let Pettersson go back to using his shot more.

I just wouldn't want to pay Marner 14-15M
For that kind of money, Rantanen would be a better fit. But I suspect Carolina will move heaven and earth to try and sign him, after giving up so much.

I hope management will be smart enough to utilize the cap space for the rest of this season to get some draft picks at the deadline.

We're chasing a wild card spot not stocking up on picks. If you're expecting management to take on a bad contract or two just for a 2nd, you'll be sorely disappointed. Likewise, I doubt they move Boeser now. And if they do, it'll be for a roster player. Not a prospect and a 1st.

You guys did really well today. At first I thought the Miller trade was horrible but now that you've made a trade for a third Peterson, that you guys took a downgrade at center but got a great upgrade on the blue line.

Overall I don't think you guys lost much. You guys can still squeak into the playoffs I think.

predictions:

we all wake up tmrw morning to a 3PD extension

within a week boeser and chytil are packaged to a contender for a young underutilized stud forward

at the deadline, all that cap room is burning a hole in allvin’s pocket and we trade our first for a crazy rental
The dream

Crazy thought - but I wonder if they trade Brock/let him walk and we take a big run at Rantanen this offseason?
Or marner.

We saved about 3.5M in one deal with JT Miller.
If we don’t sign Brock that gives us around 8.5m roughly saved.

So that’s about 12 million, and the cap is going up should be enough to make the difference for either of the guys.

And we also saved 4.25M from heinen and desharnais.

One will be replaced with willander, so that’s about 1 million.

So that’s about 3,250,000+ you need to add a little bit to sign 3Petey on a deal, he’s probably going for about five or 5.5 million.

And still have quite a bit of cap to play around to finish the roster, it’s a cool idea

Wow so much going on.

Miller had to go, I’m fine with the deal. I was prepared for it to be underwhelming. Chytil is the perfect 3C. Mancini is the x-factor, if he turns into a solid 3RHD then it’s a win.

I never grew attached to the 1st they picked up, I expected it to get flipped. The defense has been swimming all year. Barely surviving. I see D-Pettersson as the long term partner for Willander. If that ends up being your 2nd pair then you’re in great shape.

Build from the back end out.

Now I’m really curious. They need to either resign Boeser or move him. Could they end up with another 1st and move it for a centre? That’s what I’m watching for.

This team is allergic to picks, so anything they get in a Boeser deal likely gets flipped.

I want Boeser, Suter, Forbort and Juulsen to the move. It hasn’t worked, things need to change.

Yeah, it has to be a Bo Horvat type situation which is kind of unlikely with the cap going up.

Ideally we grab someone in Hronek’s situation but a centre.

I had had plans to filter centers of around U27, with term, or the very least RFA control similar to Hronek as targets for the NYR 1st.

The only names at the tip of my tongue that have circled rumor wise(not specifically to the Canucks)I can think of are Rossi and Cozens. I think there's probably a larger list to be had though.

I would imagine there needs to be another move now to get rid of Soucy or Forbort. Forbort has been playing better as of late.

Hockey stat cards has
Soucy -6.3 Offence +0.8 Defence
Forbort -4.6 Offence +2.4 Defence

M. Pettersson +6.7 Offence -5.2 Defence

You want to trade all your firsts and use all your cap space? Lol.
Knowing our owner, yes they do. What are you offering? haha

Cozens isn't a center and Rossi isn't going anywhere lol. Rossi is not in the same situation as Horvat.

The team is so far from winning but are still pretending like they are not gonna get swept in the first round if they even make it in. 🤣

We shall see how the rest of the season goes though. Play the games for a reason.

Cozens has taken a whole shit ton of face-offs for not being a center. Literally 26th in the league in face-offs taken. Lol.

This board is so funny. Every trade this team has ever made, there’s this portion of posters who just absolutely melt down and scream that the sky is falling. For them every management group has been idiots. God that must be exhausting to live that way
Gillis was good.

Burke was good.

Quinn was decent.

Likely the Benning era and our current weirdness have distorted your view.

This time next year after Willander comes and is immediately a top 4 guy, we replace Boeser with Ehlers, and EP returns to 100 point form, we’re going to be partying boys.

If they’re going to try and actually salvage the D they should be trading for another bonefide top 4 guy soon.

The whole D core needs another bump down, juulsen out of the press box and to mars.

Really mixed feelings about yesterday's trades...really can't help but think we shot ourselves in the foot with unforced errors all over the place...management seems to feel very ok with wasting assets to rid themselves of contracts they signed that were questionable in the first place...did we really need to spend $2+m for Danton Heinen? $2m for Desharnais? Did we really need to spend to the cap and remove all flexibility just to have these overpriced depth players?

I've been clamoring for a top-4 defenseman for a long time now and we finally got one, it wasn't the type I was looking for...I guess I had my hopes up for Byram or someone with a bit more offensive upside, but beggars can't be choosy and Pettersson will be a boost regardless. In a vacuum, spending a solid 1st rounder on a couple impending UFAs isn't ideal IMO, but we managed to dump some bad cap on them....but the bad cap was management driven. So its not a great deal in my eyes, but the results on the ice and in the dressing room will ultimately tell the story...and I'm willing to let it play out before I rake them over the coals.

I think the 2 weeks after 4 nations will steer the direction the club takes. If they go on a rotten run & move out other pieces then taking on an expiring contract for a pick isn't the worst idea. Would give them more trade options since they are allergic to picks.

What would be a realistic return for Brock ?

Hughes Myers (since Hughes is a god)
MP Hronek
Forbert Soucy/Willander

Is fine. They need a top 6 play driving forward with speed.

I don't see why if the team flounders that Rutherford and Allvin shouldn't be fired.

I'm not ready to go that far just yet...but this season has shaken my faith in their competence....they're definitely "on notice" right now. This organization can't afford to put themselves in a position to lose Quinn Hughes in 2 years so they need to right this ship in short order.

When are they expecting Willander to be in the line-up though?

With MP-Hronek hopefully being a long term 2nd pairing it would be nice to get Hughes an established partner. Someone he never needs to shelter.

I think the teams biggest need should be giving Hughes support so he doesn’t have to play 40 minutes a game and get hurt.

We’ve catered to 60pt Petey, so now it’s time to cater to our best player and the sole reason this ship isn’t sitting beside the Titanic.
