i think people just don't watch other teams and prospects honestly. willander is the blandest prospect i've seen get hype in years. like he's a slightly worse version of scott morrow or tanner molendyk. who gets excited about that?

anyways, i have given up trying to convince anyone of that. i stand behind saying the canucks are making a mistake passing up that deal though (especially given it was probably like klimovich or mynio or something as the prospect and not willander or elias nils pettersson). i don't think kotkaniemi is a great player or an answer for the top six issues this team has but his deal is now fantastic and he's at the very least a very good 3c. he'd be a good add for this team

i think people underestimate how hard it is going to get to add players going forward. the days of teams giving away good players like bjorkstrand or marino for basically nothing because of cap issues is over. free agents are going to have their pick of not just teams to play for but contenders to sign with. carolina (37m), winnipeg (37m), the leafs (28m), kings (25m), capitals (23m) and wild (20m) all have 20m+ in cap space this summer and wannabe contenders like utah, detroit and columbus have a ton of space too. vancouver is going to have to offer more than just cap space to retool in free agency like they've been able to the last couple seasons. tocchet and hughes will probably attract players but it's going to get harder to make signings like sherwood, debrusk and lankinen

i think we're about to see a massive shift in how successful teams are run. vegas and the florida teams won't need to change much because they're still the most desirable markets for players because of weather, taxes and winning programs but i think teams are going to have to start being much smarter about player development and "hockey trades". we're going from an environment where players were under pressure to find a place to play to an environment where teams are going to be under pressure just to fill out their roster with quality pros
You suggested trading a shit ton of value (argue over Willander all you like) for a player who is worse than Pius Suter.

I won't argue the points about how the league is changing, but if that's the case, resigning Suter for 3 million over a few years makes way more sense than your trade proposal. There's nothing sensible in it.

You think that a UFA non penalty killing, slowfooted player who is having a bad year and who hasn't pissed a drop without Miller

This has been a challenging year. Our core and learn from the experience of a playoff race and a first round, even if that's all we get.

If we could have gotten a crazy combo of prospects or picks, then it might be worth foregoing that. But trading Boeser for f*** all because we're not going to win the cup isn't how sports or humanity works. Unless you want Buffalo purgatory.
I think this is the issue some people have with keeping Boeser. He isn’t producing or contributing, but moving him is “foregoing” playoff success? Why? Right now he doesn’t look like a good fit on this team at all without a play driving center like Miller, so signing him could very well be a huge mistake. Moving him for assets that could be utilized in the future to improve the longterm success of this franchise isn’t “Buffalo purgatory”.

I grew up going to a decent amount of games every year. It's just a part of my life so i'll always be a buyer.

I also really enjoy public transit so i don't mind that aspect, and I'm living in VAN atm.

I will say though - I don't enjoy going as much as I used to. It's wild to me how many people in the crowd are either just belligerently drunk or are more into the gambling. It makes the crowd less fun. I'll sit around dudes just saying the absolute worst shit because the canucks are winning but not hitting their over.

Even my students ask me why I care so much about sports if i'm not a degenerate gambler.

It's definitely tilted over the last few years that I get as much satisfaction, if not more, scrolling HF during a game lol.

Doesn't help that Rogers is a shit can. Go to Edmonton, or Seattle, and soon Calgary and it's just mind blowing how much better your in-arena experience is.

You wanna go to a game with Ol Rev?

I grew up in a stingy middle class family who scraped for everything we have today. I got to go to 1 game a year and had to use my Christmas wish for it. But just pure magic.

The crowd has gotten too corporate and impatient. I get wanting to bring energy but I can’t say I’d do the wave in the 2nd period being up a goal.

I wouldn’t mind doing a meet up with anyone crazy enough to want to meet in person and watch a game. Or even split tickets with. I’m game for pretty much anything. It was nice the past 3 games I’ve gone to it feels like the magic had awoken again.

Moving him without getting a replacement is basically telling Hughes we are giving up this season. This is the message we don’t want to communicate to the guy we are desperately trying to keep.

something that isn't getting talked about...

if allvin bends and takes a bad deal, what would be stopping the same gm or another from trying to screw PA next time???
word starts to get out that if he gets desperate he'll break, that bodes terribly for future deals

"i may lose BB for nothing in the summer, but f*** all you lowball cock____ sucker gm's for trying to take advantage of me"

sometimes you gotta swallow your pride and take a loss, to not just keep face, but also to send a message that you can't take advantage, it sucks

Yeah

Assuming Elliot isn’t lying

I’m fine with keeping Brock, if you bend once they would all think you are vulnerable next time.

But also, maybe they need a better negotiation technique

I don’t think Elliot would make shit up

If that’s the case, then either they all think we are desperate or that Boeser is not a top 6 F without a dominant center
Well Bessy has 2g and 3a in 12 games post Millsy. Hopefully he turns it around as those 3as came in the last 4 games

Not that I have a major issue with keeping Boeser, but this thread is sounding a lot like the Benning Hamhuis TDL debacle threads.
I think the difference is for Hamhuis at the time, literally any return would be fine.

For someone with w pedigree like Boeser, I don’t think it’s good for reputation to sell him for dirts especially in seller market

Granted, I will be very disappointed if he walks

We were not close to making the playoffs it made no sense to not trade him. We were a bottom 5 team that year. How is that the same, to a team that is probably favoured to make the playoffs.

Hamuis was also never offered a contract, the Canucks have negotiated multiple times to sign Boeser. Really nothing is similar about the situations.

We finished like bottom 3 in 2016 and Benning didn’t want to sell because he was absolutely delusional.

He could never quite grasp where the team was realistically at in the standings.

Especially in 2016, but seemingly every year.

Or it’s saying, we’re adding assets to make our team better in the future. Does anyone actually believe Boeser is the difference between this team making the playoffs or not? Adding a 2nd round pick in this draft could give this organization the gumption to move their 1st at the draft to add a player that can actually make a difference though.

And I don’t understand why. Two completely different situations. The 2016 had no shot on playoffs. This morning the Canucks controlled their destiny. That’s a huge difference.
I suppose technically that's true, but in reality, whoever grabs that last wildcard spot will almost certainly just be the team that's on the side of luck. With 20 games left in the season and up to 4 teams going for one wildcard spot, I don't think it really matters if we kept or traded Brock/Suter. It's just gonna be the team that gets a good run with their goalie and/or their shooting percentage. Last night was almost the perfect demonstration of that

Dude has no f***ing clue what is going on at any point. Hell people who play EA can probably build a better team than him. How the f*** can anyone build a team with a historically bad PK when everyone is healthy.
f*** Benning, I can’t believe there are still Benning bro still trying to prop him up yesterday.
