If Guentzel is gone, I’d much rather they spend the money on Arvidsson, Zadorov, and another RD. If UFA is the route they want to go.

Arvidsson, Zadorov and Tanev - sign me up and hook it to my veins.

(I'd also be fine with Toffoli, but I know I'm a minority opinion on that)

I'm expecting us to acquire a fourth line buzzsaw/physical player type. I know Duhaime and Lomberg have been floated as possible names - something in that vein, but maybe cheaper.

Marchessault might be a good choice too. Cant go too long on the term though.

Probably takes four years to get him when you ideally want only two years to de-risk yourselves.

Also curious about William Carrier as a bottom-6 add. He's massive, physical, and has elite defensive impacts for a bottom-6 forward. Usually good for 25ish point pace too. Injuries a concern of course.

looking like i'd rather just hold out for a trade at this point. curious about the possibility of a three way deal involving marner.

Get Zadorov signed asap and don't rush into signing anyone else as sometimes someone else all of a sudden becomes available that really was not on the list.

If they miss the big guys I’m more interested in the more expensive right-side defender options. Somewhat ambivalent on the remaining forwards, a bunch of guys probably in the $4-$5M range that could fit.

I like this option as well.

Hughes-Tanev
Zadorov-Hronek
Soucy-Myers

Where would this rank in terms of top d-cores in the NHL?
Top 10? Top 5?

I think Tanev is awesome but having him on top pair at this age with injury history seems like a dicey proposition.

Have him hover around 3/4D position will be better.

Yes please to Marchessault. Wonder what he is inline to make this upcoming season?

Probably couldn't afford Marchessault, Tanev, and big Zaddy.

Heinen in the bottom 6 could help.

I can't imagine Vegas moves on from Marchessault, they're so thin on the wings after Stone. Though I do wonder what the hold-up is.
Probably trying to fit in the LTRI clause in his contract.

I've come around to Heinen as a potential Garland replacement. Cheaper, plays PK, not a big drop-off offensively.

Jake Guentzel:
-was hearing last week that the Hurricanes were really going to try hard
-Hurricanes are hellbent on signing him and no one will be surprised if they do it

Joshua:
-wasn't looking good for Joshua to return
-first offer to Joshua was 2.5m and then 2.7m and didn't raise to 3m until this week
-his agent told management that they weren't going to accept anything that didn't start with 3m
-closed the deal yesterday morning
-numerous teams were showing interest
-loves the city, teammates, coach, and wants to win
-Tocchet called Joshua a few weeks ago just to talk to him

Myers:
-negotiations did not start great
-first offers started in the low 2s, then 2.5m, finally got to 3m
-Myers didn't budge from 3m
-knew Myers would get more on the market
-really likes Gonchar and Foote

Zadorov:
-talks put to the side while Milstein deals with the draft
-plan is for them to sit down again this weekend
-number is closer to 5m

Tanev:
-high on their list
-would pick Tanev over Zadorov and it's not even close
-Tanev would like to be in Vancouver
-Stars still talking to him but not sure that gets done
-Senators and Maple Leafs are very interested and his parents live in Ontario
-Tanev has a very soft spot for Vancouver, never wanted to leave; has close friends in the dressing room and off the ice
-Canucks are looking for a shot suppression player and he tops the list
-can't get into a bidding war for him

Goalies:
-no contact with DeSmith's agent in months until yesterday
-until this week had confidence with Silovs backing up Demko
-feel they need an NHL veteran to back-up Demko
-am not sure how much progression will take place with DeSmith's agent this weekend
-worried that if Demko gets hurt, there's not a good back-up for Silovs in the organization
-have liked Maple Leaf's Samsonov
-not hearing too many promising things on DeSmith this morning

Klimovich:
-not going to give up on him
-excited about him working with Malhotra

Aidan McDonaugh:
-not going to qualify him
-was not an easy decision
-had injuries last season
-don't want too many contracts

Woo:
-will qualify Woo
-may announce a new contract this weekend
-didn't want to give up on him given that there's no AHL RD depth

Lindholm's Rights:
-haven't heard of them shopping his rights
-everyone thinks he's going to Boston

4th Line Speed:
-keep an eye on Tyler Motte and Ryan Lomberg

Heinen is more of a complementary guy you throw onto a line as a 3rd wheel, he's good in that role so I wouldn't mind him if he gets squeezed as a UFA like Suter did last year. Garland drives our 3rd line.

Joshua would definitely be less effective.

sounds like Guentzel not coming here.

Tanev and someone like Marchessault wouldn't be a bad haul.

Which makes the signing Myers for 3 years crazy, that will block Willander.

Where is this cap space coming to sign a not 1MM backup? If they’re serious about Guentzel and Tanev, they don’t have the space for it.

How much is Drouin going to command if he hits the open market? Is that a potential option for the Canucks top 6 if they strike out on Guentzel/Reinhart?

i am excited not to get guentzel. signing a 29 year old undersized winger to just under 8 figures for 7 years terrifies me. i will cautiously go along with what allvin is doing based on track record but i have severe doubts.

otoh, having nearly $15m available to improve the lineup opens up a lot of opportunities to make the kind of mid-tier moves that massively improved us last season. the only problem is that i accept that finding a winger for petey is necessary and i am skeptical about toffoli or arvidsson filling that void.

i think drouin is finally in a place where he can thrive and should stay there. that guy had incredible talent coming into the league and his career arc has been sad until now.

Love to see Motte back on the 4th line, but not sure what he'll cost. Can't overspend on the 4th line.
