Agreed...Kesler was just coming into his own as a 24-year-old, Cozens just turned 24 and still has a LOT of room for growth...he has the size, speed, shot and aggression to be a similar type of center. If we are going to trade EP, he's the type of center I'd like build a deal around.
Yep Kesler had 140pts in 320 games by 25
Cozens 196 in 337 is on the same track

dudes, we are not trading petey. can’t happen.

allvin cannot have on his resume inheriting three all star centers and ending up with (for the sake of argument) an expansion draft-level 1-2 punch of cozens and chytil, and a killer middle d pair.

perception-wise, it would milbury-esque.

so he’s absolutely pot-committed to petey. all that’s left is hoping he comes back in the fall having rebuilt himself physically and mentally. obviously it’s not guaranteed by a longshot, but stranger things have happened…

i wonder about nyquist though. not a needle mover and having a horrible year. but if he’s available for cheap, that’s a fast guy with some hands to gamble on filling boeser’s hole for this year.

Expecting 1-2 horrible trades. Maybe 1 okay trade. Certainly expecting to have less picks and prospects when it shakes out.

Last time he said something, Petey almost went to Carolina.

Thought this one was interesting. Wonder if he’s getting shut down?

I mean they didn’t shut down Mikeyev on a torn ACL.

The price for Lindgren makes it a miracle we got M Petey for what we paid. Plus DOC and we dumped 2 bad contracts. I still hate that we traded Miller but I feel like we got good value on the 2nd trade.

Miller situation felt very Kesler-esque, as many pointed out. We did what we could given the circumstance. Metey trade is looking good, yeah. Of course, the core of the situation was and still remains that two professional athletes being paid top dollars cannot pull their panties up grow a pair and work together like the PROFESSIONALS they were suppose to be.

This also means we might be able to squeeze the market, even if it's just a little bit, when trading Soucy?

seems like sakic often makes trades i don't quite understand. he and yzerman have that in common.

finally!

am i crazy to think colorado is potentially giving up the best player in parsinnen?

like, maybe makar being better than fox (or fox being washed...) is the thought, and lindgren has shown he can play heavy minutes before, which allows them to move toews to run the second pair if/when needed.

but jimmy vesey?? that's a buying move?

I’m not expecting any significant roster surgery here. If the Canucks do decide to move on from guys like Petey or Demko, I think that comes in the off season.

I think even if they don’t extend him, they’re keeping Boeser.

What I do see as possible is the Canucks moving out a player who’s been pushed out of a spot (Soucy), and maybe using their cap space to land a player on an unattractive deal plus some assets. Whether it’s a guy on an expiring deal like JG Pageau, or a guy with some term left like Josh Anderson.

The point would be to add even more cap space, and come out with a futures surplus. I don't think the Canucks really operate this way, however, and it would probably be more likely they pick-up a guy like Nyquist AND use Boeser as an own rental.

Then the philosophic question has been begged.

Are we trying to run a business or ice a good hockey team?

And the only correct answer would be - both.

And because the roster and salary structure was already built on shaky ground…it does seem like a bit of a fools errand but they cobbled it together last year for 109 points and are right in the thick of it.

We are actually in a playoff spot as of this morning. I’ve never seen a team blow it all to shit actively sitting in a playoff spot.
