Can we buy Quinn Hughes 2026 rights for future considerations?

But seriously the management team should be having conversations with him about the future of the team.

Would have to be a mutual contract termination, if that's what you're thinking. Like with Brandan Saad. Can't do buyouts in the middle of the season.
Yes, that would be the correct terminology that I was speaking of. Then off to Vegas Taylor Hall goes just like Saad. 🤣

2027 first overall Landon Dupont is next Cale Makar. Tank for him.

This is such interesting wording. The fit hasn't looked great. Is this a deal like a trade? Or a contract termination?

If it's an extension, I'd be really surprised.

You'd have to think management would have those conversations with his agent, at the very least this off-season...if they feel the need to move on from both Demko and EP, you'd have to think they are reaching complete tear down mode and Hughes will likely prefer to use his years productively and the team would likely try to extract as much value as possible rather than lose him for nothing. If you can retain on his salary for his final 2 years you can probably get a very tidy haul. Obviously this isn't a desired outcome, but its a possible one.

so...they arent going to be able to re-sign rantanen..to make up for it they are re-signing the cap dump they got in the deal to save face?

Canucks are involved in both proposals.
Vancouver’s participation in a Rantanen trade only makes sense if they are flipping him on to another team. I don’t see wanting to sign long-term in Vancouver.

Sabres are giving up both Tuch and Cozens and getting the pleasure of 40s contract. Yes ok stopped reading there

Those are gross, especially the second one. Good Lord. Someone needs to put down NHL 25.

Provided we can resign Rantanen I do both of those deals.

But it's just fantasy.

And what exactly do you expect Quinn to say? No UFA in 2027 is gonna give you a straight answer.

Rantanen will be getting paid 14 million from ages 33-37.

As a win now for Carolina sure... for us idk better start thinking about the possibility of being able to unload contracts and players

I have zero interest in a deadline deal for Rantanen

As a UFA I guess we could look at a couple ways. Sign Rantanen get Pettersson a winger
Instead of Boeser ages 32-35 you have a better player and you also get someone to deflect away from the 11.6 deal

I see about a 10% chance that he stays here, a 20% chance he asks for a trade, and a 70% chance he walks to go play with his brothers in NJ.
