It’s worrisome that Winnipeg hasn’t been able to sell out games despite being at the top of the standings for years.

They already have a below-average sized arena. Their owner has already shown impatience with the Winnipeg corporate community and fan base.

The irony if they lose their team to relocation to Phoenix again.

Everybody loves Garland and for his consistency? His points per 60 5v5 on the Canucks is 14th. I thought he was some sort of 5v5 god according to some. His time on ice 5v5 leads the team. 23 points in his first 25 games to 11 points in the last 30 games. Doesn't PK, he's small and doesn't hit. Absolute muffin of a shot. Not a great passer. Now that he is getting harder ice time, he's a minus player. He's getting 4 minutes more per game this year than last year and he's going to score at the same pace. I don't see a selke vote in his future. On a contending team he's a 3rd line player.

It's pretty simple.

HIs contract runs out next year, he's small, and he doesn't PK but he would probably return some decent assets. I mean it all depends on what his next contract would look like and how he fits into the team makeup.

At least he's been playing in the top 6 this year. Previously he was a roadblock to spending money on top 6 wingers, now we have to decide if he's the proper compliment to our new top 6 in the making.

It's an interesting question. What does he want and what is he worth? I mean he could want 5 or 6 years at around $6+ mil per. With the cap increase and play of late he's definitely getting a raise on his $4.85. Is that worth it for us? He may not even want to be here depending on how the next season and a third go. He might not even consider signing with us at all.

When they signed Jake Debrusk to me, that was Garland spot in the roster line up and cap allocation for the future. Middle 6 guy paid what he's worth. If you have too many, as you said stops you from getting better players. The Canucks needs assets to try and find better players. If Garland was signed 2 or 3 more years. Sure but he's not. I doubt he's going to take the same contract again.

He's currently got 2 points less than Heinen. Despite me liking him far more that's about where I'd expect management would be looking. So $2.2 mil but I would expect that they will want to retain him after the trade and would go as high as $2.5 mil on a 2 or 3 year deal.

I think we've all been pretty happy with his play but I wouldn't make the mistake of overpaying either. $3 mil is too much imo for a player who hasn't really been anything but a bottom 6 role player. He's 26 and a 24 point per 82 game player.

I would set the over/under at $2.35 mil per but honestly would be trying to get him for less. We're also going to be tight on the cap of course so an extra $2 mil would be substantial.

He has two more years after this season at $5MM

He is painfully slow (maybe one of the worst skating C league wide this year)

His ES # are not bad, but most of that I would attribute to playing with Troy Terry.

He is the most undisciplined forward in the game (-80 net penalties) in the last 6 seasons....a product of constantly chasing the game.

below average PP production relative to TOI

near zero PK utility

Not at all physical (half a hit per game)

horrible face off taker

I see essentially no boxes checked....don't see the appeal at all.

Dhaliwall was on sportsnet 650 @ 8am this morning and he ended the segment by saying the Friedman kept calling him during the hit.

Something might be cooking.....it is Friday after all.

Yeah, the team has been transitioning the puck better than any time in the season despite Quinn being out. Hronek + MP + EP25 have been connecting with Chytil, O'Connor, and Sherwood on the move.

This will be even better when Quinn comes back as he can skate the puck on top of making stretch passes. EP40 returning to the place wher he can skate with the puck would be huge obviously, but the team could use 1 or 2 additional forwards that are able to do that.

We have seen the limitations of dump and chase hockey. It's a good tool but can't be the only tool. With Miller gone, we have lost our biggest threat for that kind of game. I'll always enjoy the memories of him digging out the puck and making a big play, but overall I'd rather watch a transition team.

What I really remember from that LAK Cup run was that at the deadline, they were a bubble team and we were a top team. They outbid us for Jeff Carter because we weren’t willing to trade enough future assets and they were. They sneak in as the 8 seed they knock us out on their way to winning the Cup, Jeff Carter lead the playoffs in goals.

They are actually an example of a GM believing in his core and supporting them while we were preaching some bullshit Detroit Red Wings compete forever model (which was BS…Detroit sucked as soon as Lidstrom wasn’t dominant).

That’s why you go all-in when you have the key elite player(s).

Not sure, but Dhaliwal is more connected with extensions, signings etc because his connnections are with agents.

When it comes to trades, Dhaliwal isnt as connected or ahead of it.

So if Friedman is calling Dhaliwal, its likely to do with an extension re: Lanky , Suter....

Dhaliwal confirmed that he spoke with Hankinson, Boeser's agent and Dhaliwal said its very quiet in regards to negotiations with Boeser so i dont think its Boeser related.

People are slowly realizing that we need a 1C post Miller and the options are very underwhelming.

The free agent players are also v underwhelming.

Nobody agrees and that’s fine but we need to rebuild. We have a bad pipeline and no ability the full the holes that need filling.

We have some decent assets and 1 unbelievable asset to move (Hughes)

The window is closed on us. The next few years is just a team filling random pieces always a few pieces away from being a good team.

EP, Demko and JT ruined this current teams contending window for varying reasons.
