Year 0 of Benning:
Big name UFA signings:
Miller 33 Vrbata 32
You're right they should've been targeting the big name 18-25 year old UFAs

This tends to happen whenever Benning isn't actually DOING anything. Once he starts doing things (shudder) his dead-enders seem to disappear from this forum quickly.
Sad that Benning's top move is signing a guy they couldn't even trade at the deadline.

Vrbata signing
Bieksa for a 2nd
paying Tanev his market rate and getting him signed to term
Baertschi trade and i'm still not even a fan of it.
Not qualifying Weber.
I don't even get the last one?
How about UFAs that could be flipped at the deadline for future assets?
Yup.How about UFAs that could be flipped at the deadline for future assets?
or other option - not qualifying him but offer him a two year deal at a reduced salary (take it or leave it offer). Like #6 left side D are THAT hard to get.Qualifying Weber after last season would have resulted in the team going to arbitration and likely paying him even more than they did. Should have done the same with Sbisa...
Is everyone forgetting Benning giving Tanev a 1-year show me deal while every intelligent fan was screaming to sign him to 4x6 years ASAP? Seriously, just because he did not **** up as usual, it is now a good move? Give me a breakpaying Tanev his market rate and getting him signed to term

How about UFAs are human beings that aren't always willing to move to wherever they can be best "flipped for assets"?
who said it was a good move? i was asked top 5 moves and i answered.

Not to mention poster somehow forgets Jethro is the GM that has tried to strong-arm a veteran team player (that didn't ask or want to leave) to waive his NTC.it happens every year yet somehow we can't get in on the action.
Sorry, I misunderstood then. Yeah, it's pretty sad that is one of his top 5 moves
Toronto had no issues doing that?
it is a pretty sad list. actually i forgot one. signing stecher should be in there.

Compliment the core like Vrbata did this season? Or how Miller, when healthy, tended to get the majority of the starts and in the case of last season the easier starts.

Pretty much everything was rotten, from the core to the complimentary pieces. Getting a 30 goal season out of a 2 year term isn't a bad thing.
What did Vrbata scoring 30 goals in his first year do for us?
Nothing.
Then why keep the Sedin's or Edler or anyone expensive.
We could put Carey Price or Henrik Lundqvist on my beer league team......how do you think we would fare against the rest of the NHL?
