Haha yeah the Gilman on the beach was great. The "full story" has some room for improvement though...if its Canucks vs media its usually Linden vs Friedman (Iraqi Information minister vs Washington Post or something) but thats critisism on a rather high level to be honest. ;)
Heh, I did consider making it Linden (because as you say that's more or less the basis of the plotline), but I decided to make it Benning because I just recently had one that he was barely in, and (spoiler alert) there's another one coming up in two weeks' time where he's not the focus. ;)

Yep, the Sedins are the reason why this team sucks, the prospect pool sucks, the coaching sucks, the management sucks, and the ownership sucks.

Well the twins not being able to carry the team is a contributing reason. Not sure why we need to blame thems though considering they are the only ones along with Horvat that can put up points. If we are tanking with them, without them we will be in free fall.

Agree with the rest though.

.

I still don't know why the sedins were extended!

Some times ya just jot to roll with the punches.

:bow

Oh how me nucks.

Bo

Hmm

Me likes

Do you really think any owner or GM in this league would want their team's two best players (and captain) to walk away for nothing? Outside of Kesler, there has always been a huge drop in talent on forward after the Sedins.

To compare them on the basis of raw save % is extremely misleading.

Your points are well taken, but why are you arguing with me? I was the one who said "When did career save % define a goaltender." It was a reply to the comment

a .915 career save % is average for a guy who supposedly had such an elite career.

Take it to the Gillis thread - this is about CURRENT management.:sarcasm:

I'm finding this haggling over the Miller-Lack debacle just slightly more relevant over my ol' ennui over why the Canucks didn't claim Mike Rogers when the NHL absorbed the 3 WHA franchises (he's too small, they said)... But what really matters is how is Benning going to address his scoring quandary (although Burrows reawakening and Erikssons Bon mots seem to lessen that urgency) w/o damaging the slim prospect core?

Becoming more and more clear that Bennings scouting prowess is ridiculously overrated.

He's had a 5th overall and 6th overall pick in his 3 years at the helm. Jury is out on Juolevi but Virtanen is clearly a brutal choice.

The prospect cupboard still looks barren and it's not surprising considering he's given away so many picks. This team is actually the same or worse in terms of prospects during the Gillis years.

Even if jake is a bust, our prospect pool is way better.

Juolevi
Demko
Tryamkin
Boeser
Lockwood
Gaudette

Nick Jensen was our best prospect at one point

Lockwood and Gaudette are the type of prospects every team has.

Tryamkin was a good pick. Demko is to be continued. Boeser has slowed down. Juolevi is to be continued.

Nick Jensen was our shiny new toy.

We also have Ben Hutton from those years and none of these guys have made the impact that he's had. Same with Bo.

This management group, has turned me very sour to the idea, of financially supporting this team in any way. I won't spend another dime (going to games, or Merch) until they are shipped out to pasture.

Shouldn't that be a cautionary tale about counting your prospects before they hatch? At one point Jensen was a good prospect, just like all of those guys on your list. Or remember when Cody Hodgson was tearing up junior and rated the #2 prospect by THN? Until they graduate to the NHL or at least perform well in the AHL then it's a bit silly to tout one group of prospects light years ahead of a previous group. And of course we should expect a prospect like Juolevi to be progressing well, we used the 5th pick in the entire draft to get him, vs the 29th pick to get Jensen.

Welcome to the club. Haven't given money to them in years.

We had Jensen when we were finishing 1st in the league.

We finished 3rd LAST and we should have a much better prospect pool when we are that crap. The fact we only have like 2 guys from last draft that might amount to something is just **** management.

If you could make a trade, that group combined couldn't bring you back Nylander/Ehlers, Konecny, and Tkachuk.

Tough to praise Benning's scouting when the consensus picks on a message board have outdone him.

Yeah, the Canucks have been one of the worst teams in the league for nearly 4 seasons now, and they have very little in the way of blue chip prospects to show for it. Toronto, Winnipeg, and Vancouver all have similar combined point totals over the last few seasons but those teams walked out of the 1st round with guys like Nylander, Marner, and Matthews or Ehlers, Connor, and Laine, while the Canucks have Virtanen, Boeser, and Juolevi to show for it. You could package up all 3 of the Canucks picks and not get any one of those guys (save maybe for Connor) in return.

When you have a #6 overall pick struggling to put up a 15 point pace in the AHL 2.5 years after being drafted, it's not hard to see why the Canucks are going to stuck at the bottom for a long time.
