Personally I find this repeated statement nonsensical. It's perfectly valid that scouting departments may see this years draft in certain ranges weaker than others. and that the Wild prefer to have a now player if they trade Rossi and not a draft pick. But this idea that scouts just overall 'don't like a draft'? That's nonsense. If the Wild had pick #15 maybe they look at the players available as equivalent to a #25 pick from the previous year, and management wasn't happy with the acquisition cost, but I'm sure Brackett and the amateur scouts will have their list and end up with a player they're happy to have. If management doesn't just trade it back out for a now player and let another team get a prospect they want. Yes the Wild already traded their pick, but that was a trade to get David Jiricek.
Basically this is the trade rumours board, not fantasy hockey, and what we have are rumours and speculation. It appears that Guerin isn't interested in meeting Rossi's contract demands, and with a lot of teams needing a center an offer sheet is a very likely possibility. Vancouver is one of those teams needing a center, and their most readily available center piece asset will be the #15 in the upcoming draft with maybe some tweaks here or there. It's up to Guerin how he wants to play it but if Vancouver is in the mix this could be a contender for the best value asset, even if its not what he's specifically looking for. Draft picks are the most fluid assets though so he could easily do something else with it.
