Rumor: Canucks going after Rossi?

The guy who's scored more than 66 points twice in his 7 year career? What a stud

Only due to health - otherwise, per 82, starting from his rookie season, his numbers would be as follows;

77 points, 80 points, 67 points, 70 points, 105 points, 89 points, 58 points.

Yes, health is not guaranteed, but at the same time this is obviously a player that is better than a 66 point player lmao, his career ppg average is 0.97 which equates to a 80 point pace/82 games, all the while being elite defensively.

Also 66 points is such a weird cut off, try to make it less obvious that you're trying to push a narrative next time.

Lekkerimaki and 15 oa.

No thanks. Canucks easily say no.

Marco Rossi is a 5'9 center that's an RFA looking for a massive contract (Boldy-esque). His three most common linemates is Kaprizov, Boldy and Zuccarrelo - one superstar and two elite offensive players. He was not utilized in the playoffs and his own management team doesn't believe in him.

His ES/60 is ranked 117th, tied with Sean Couturier and Jordan Martinook. He's not a shut down/match up center and has heavy Ozone starts % - hockeyreference has him at 63.5% last year.

He's not good at faceoffs (46.8%), rode a 17% shooting percentage last year, and had 60 giveaways compared to 18 takeaways.

He's a nice, fine young player but given his contractual status (or lack thereof), I wouldn't pay much more than the 15th pick + B prospect.

Might be wrong but I suspect A LOT of people are going to be underwhelmed at the return. He's one of those guys that fans love on paper but not valued as highly across the league. GMs love size and playoff-style players... the probability that a 5'9 player can excel in the playoffs is so extremely rare. You either need elite skill or elite speed (or both) to be able to succeed. Not sure Rossi has these traits.

Like I said, he's a good young player, but what are his stats going to look like when his wingers aren't Kaprizov, Boldy and Zuccarrello?

Garland and a top 12 protected 2026 1st.
If Van is trading their 2026 first it would be for a player who fits their profile of need a lot more than Rossi.
I’m sure all interested teams have had discussions of cost to acquire Rossi. If that was the cost Minny conveyed then Van would politely listen and go in another direction.

He's a much better player than Zuccarello.

He played just 34 games with Kaprizov and in the games without him he still paced for 56, including a bad March where he was dealing with an injury.

I guess I'm mostly curious why you'd trade for a top six center and not play him with top six wingers?

I wonder what Pettersson's numbers would be like if he only played with third liners.

Well, he had 89 points in 23-24 with his most common linemates being Mikheyev and Hoglander.

Fans of Matthews love to say how he's on a similar goal pace as Ovi. But the thing is pace doesnt mean much when you miss so many games.

Its not like he's had one bad year with injuries either. Its constant. For a guy who's as well paid as he is, he needs far better availability and consistency.

I'm not "pushing a narrative" I'm stating a fact. And the fact is 66 isnt random, its his 3rd highest point total in a season. You're the one pushing a narrative having to pull out all kinds of pace numbers to support it. I'm simply stating what he's done, youre guessing at what he maybe kinda could've done.

Reality is, he's far closer to a salary dump like Laine than he is to the elite players in this league

So is Guerin looking to move on from for the sake of cap space (so picks) or is he actually trying to get legit players back?
No one knows. The Wild fans on this board seem to think Guerin is an alcoholic, sociopathic moron. So even if he pulls off a good hockey trade here, or a futures trade that pans out, they'll just say he got lucky

Sure. There’s a non-zero chance it’s blown up in the next year. That would be a fun first to have. We already have Buium, Faber and Jiricek, but I could find a spot for Dupont

There is 0 chance we'd move that pick for exactly that reason - we aren't moving our '26 picks until we see how this team is trending next year, and '27 is probably off the board all together incase we're in a situation where Hughes actually does plan on leaving. All reports have it being this year's 1st, it's 100% going to be this year's 1st.
