I'm not sure if you've been paying attention to the league but teams don't really value players as much who are small - especially those who are short. Rossi is 5'9. He's not a bad player, I think he's pretty good as he's not someone that needed to play alongside of Kaprizov/Boldy to do good, but the reality is if Rossi was over 6 foot, there would be a huge lineup of teams interested. Unfortunately, he is not.

He had a really bad month of March, he was also battling an injury that he played through during that time. In the playoffs, he had a pretty bad game 1, and the coach dropped him down to the fourth line. After that he got much better, but was never moved back up, despite two-thirds of the middle six ahead of him being worse than he was.

Ban has to shop in the bin with players who will have flaws, that lower the cost to acquire, but provide upside if all things work out for them. Rossi (imo) fits that profile. I’m pretty sure they will compare his cost and Zacha and ??? Then decide which is the best risk for the potential reward, considering the cost and contract.
