As a neutral fan, I'd rather have Horvath than Couturier. Horvat is younger, ELC and has more offensive ability while still being solid defensively. The "elite defense" of Couts isn't enough to make up the difference in value IMO.

Why did you quote Elite Defense?

Do you disagree?

It's not an intangible, you know. It's a fact.

Holy, Flyers fan overrate the hell out of Couturier lol.

Let's get some things down

- Horvat is 3 years younger
- Couturier plays with MUCH BETTER linemates like Simmonds, Schenn, Voracek etc (Horvat plays w/ like Baertschi and Burrows lol)
- Couturier has been a perennial 30-40 point pace player with the exception of last year and would be excellent as a 3rd C on a contending team
- Horvat is on an ELC while Couturier has a cap hit of 4.3M
- Horvat has much higher offensive upside while Couturier is a much better defensive player
- Couturier was better than Horvat last year, but not this year

Why do we want Couturier? I get he's a great player but we have a similar/better player in Horvat, not to mention it wouldn't make sense to part with what the Flyers would want.

Not a good idea IMO.

Edit: Speaking of Horvat, I see Eastern fans are saying Horvat+ which is ridiculous. I wouldn't trade him straight across for Couturier let alone adding, he's already probably atleast as good as Couturier (if not better), and hes more skilled offensively/younger. No chance of that happening.

My line of thinking was that with Couturier and Horvat here, we'd be set down the middle for years to come, without having had to tank in order to *possibly* draft a franchise center.

Couturier-Horvat would give us the potential to have a Bergeron-Krejci type set up, or even a Rolston-Holik type set up if we're looking at the Devils' model from the mid/late 90's.

With teams like Calgary, Edmonton, and Winnipeg all looking to be stacked offensively, my "vision" for the Canucks' future model would be to take on a more gritty-defensive type approach.

With Horvat and Couturier at center, the Canucks would have two excellent two-way centers that could potentially burn you offensively as well. All in all, we'd be extremely tough to play against.

But again - this deal won't happen. No idea why this thread degenerated into a Horvat vs.Couturier thread when I clearly stated in my original post that I don't want to trade Horvat for Couturier.

Cool Story.

We don't want to give up Couts; if you want him then that's the price at a minimum. It has nothing to do with actual value. Please tell me exactly why we should want to trade Couturier for anything less than a better 2C, when without him our center depth is Giroux - Schenn  - Cousins - Bellemare.

To be frank - then you probably shouldn't have started the thread. Taking the other teams needs in to consideration is an important part of trades. The flyers don't have a 2C if they trade Couturier. Schenn has done better than expected deputizing in his absence, but it's far from ideal. The flyers are looking for a good 3c or better than Couturier 2C to push Couturier to a 3C role. The only thing the Canucks have that would make any sense whatsoever would be Horvat, so the thread was kind of stillborn.

Perfect.

We agree that both fan bases overrate their assets of Horvat and Couturier, respectively and a deal cannot be made.
