Announcers are relieved it doesn't look like he won't make the bigs. Would be the most carefully pronounced name since Karl Dykhuis.
There was a headline in a sports section of a local paper, 'CLOSE SHAVE FOR KUNTZ"

I can't find an image of it and I'm wondering if I hallucinated it. It was probably in a Book Of Lists from 1982 or something. Which for those that never read one was clearly the progenitor of Uncle John's Bathroom Reader.

The more peculiar part of the name is "Dennis" given he's Belarusian.

Reminds me of the obviously Swedish Douglas Murray.

Denis is a common Russian name.

Reading up on Douglas Murray, his dad's side of the family are Scottish in origin so Douglas actually makes sense.

Hockey players naming their kids after teammates would be an interesting discussion. Trevor Linden's son is Roman Matthias Linden. Matthias Lindén would be a very Swedish name.

Grot's a good one. 6 spots later than Koltstov who we never heard the end of. David Honzik in 2011 may be another, I don't recall much if any discussions of him.

The rest... wow. We debate them into the dirt.

I feel like the late 90s/early 00s was a dead zone for information on most prospects from overseas. Nowhere near the level of video and scouting reports that are available now.
