Legitimate question, apart from drafting, is Ethan Bear a better defencemen than anyone from the entire previous regime? I'm factoring in acquisition cost and contract. Here's the full list of notable defencemen:

Alex Biega, Kyle Burroughs, Tyler Myers, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, Luke Schenn, and Nate Schmidt.
I was president of the Alex Biega fan club, and am a huge booster for Kyle Burroughs... but yes. Bear is tops.

Canucks played a great game. The Avs were flying out there. Colorado had 10 shots during that 2nd period pp stretch that included a 5 on 3 and double minor, so the shot totals don't reflect how the game went. The Canucks played really well in the 2nd and 3rd. Came back from 1 goal in the 3rd against the Stanley Cup champs. Should be a huge statement game for this team.

since the Canucks are pretty good at scoring and not so great at defending, as time winds down in the 3rd they should think like a team who is down by a goal or two...a team that is down is trying to score and wishing they had more time...the Canucks have been trying to defend and watching the clock, wishing the time would go faster, which doesn't bring out their best qualities...except in this game, it seems they've had that mental shift...as time winds down, try to score and play like they wish there was more time...they will lose some games playing like that but they will likely play more to their potential

Colorado had a couple massive breaks in this game - bizarre overturn of the Garland goal, chintzy hooking penalty to give a 1:40 5-on-3 - and had a huge PP advantage and then had one kinda suspect neutral zone interference call go against them and they lost their minds and were full REFS YOU SUCK mode and throwing stuff on the ice was just a continuation of that. Was absolutely ridiculous.

Fair.. but that interference call was not "kinda suspect".. it was awful. And obviously was a massive call in the game.

I just don't understand the Garland call. Not sure who makes the final call on that, but just brutal.

Have to see more before I’d be prepared to rate him above Schenn, who has been excellent all of last season and this one thus far - but the early returns are very promising.

One thing to note is that, while I’m a big Schenn fan, his reputation is a bit inflated. He averages the least amount of ice time of non-Stillman regulars. He’s pretty sheltered in late game situations and against fast competition. Ethan Bear averages 90 seconds more a game than he does.

Although tonight Schenn crested 20 minutes, along with Hughes and Bear. OEL at 17 with Burroughs and Myers at 15 each.

Schenn has literally become the best defenceman on this roster at getting his shot through

He is amazing

Hughes is getting worse at it and I can’t remember the last time he got a shot through

OEL gives up and just flings it to the corner and hope the forwards recover it

Not to be a downer - and overall Bear has been solid/good - but Bear was quite bad last game so I'd just like to see it play out a bit still and see the consistency over 20+ games. Really liked his ability to get shots through tonight though and I like the version of OEL much better with Bear than Myers.

Had to come to your board tonight and give kudos for a great win in regulation. Your boys deserve all the turkey and stuffing they can get. Don't over do on the eating too much though as you have a big date in Vegas on Saturday.

While we do have a weirdly large amount of American players and they'll surely celebrate, I feel it's my duty to point out that Canadian Thanksgiving was last month.

Thanks for the kind words, though.

Play Martin. Play Burroughs. I realize our defense is mostly to blame for our early season woes but seeing Martin still be able to produce wins makes Demko’s performance this year so much more frustrating. Martin should be continuing to get the majority of the work until Demko figures it out, although probably too little too late for the playoffs now. 103 point pace needed from here on out to get to 95 points.

I really just wanted to point out the absolutely terrible job the last management did at acquiring defencemen in 8 years on the job. Even if we include drafting, that adds Hughes and noone else. That Bear could even be considered at this point is a condemnation.

Lets not get that excited yet lol

Totally fair commentary - though I do feel Schenn has largely performed at least adequately in whatever situation he’s been thrown into. And given his contract vs the reliable play he’s provided, plus surprisingly strong offensive output and veteran leadership, I think he’s been a really good get.

I think most people feel this way about him, but just putting my thoughts into words.

Big win. Overcame a lot of adversity to beat a top team on the road. Wasn't perfect and you're never going to fully contain MacKinnon/Makar but that was a solid performance aside from the run of penalties late in the 2nd.

Performance of Martin highlights how terrible Demko has been and how much his performance has sunk the season so far. This team isn't as bad as some want to make out and when they get .900 goaltending from Martin they win games. When they get .880 goaltending from Demko they don't. If they were getting overall league-average goaltending they'd be somewhere 6th-8th in the conference right now.

- Pettersson line was outstanding and deserved more than the one goal. Pettersson continues to be the team's best player every night. Was nice to see him actually move around a bit on the PP - if they can unlock him there, his production could really take off. Mikheyev is just solid, quietly factors into a lot of positive stuff.

- happy for the Colorado farmhand trio of Dries/Burroughs/Martin who were all very good in this game, had to feel good for those guys.

- Horvat was very good and really carried a strong performance for his line. Isn't cooling off, either.

- Boeser wasn't as catastrophic defensively as against Vegas but did basically nothing again. Did get his 'Oh, really?' assist that seems to happen every night. Doesn't even try to carry the puck every anymore. Just dumps it in and then very slowly chases it, never wins possession, then slowly skates back up the ice on the backcheck. Icetime down to 11:37.

- 4th line was good again although they did get stuck out for Colorado's only ES goal and Joshua was in the box for a PP goal.

- Bear is just a huge win. It's been 11 games now and he's had 1 poor one, looked like a top-4 defender in the rest.

- Myers still stinks. Down to 15 minutes. As with Boeser, coaches appear to finally be cluing in and cutting the icetime of the problem players.

Should be pretty self explanatory on how the Avs fanbase is trash. A no brainer if one does some research.

Not to mention their fanbase haven't moved on from 2019 where they still ridicule/downplay Hughes whenever they can. Just pathetic.
