Canucks did a really good job of containing the ducks stars IMO.

Sedins looked really good.
Vey was flying , great game but seemed to fade later on

The Ducks had absolutely nothing in the way of scoring chances in the entire 3rd period and 'you could just tell they were going to score'? Yeah, no.

The Canucks were excellent in the 3rd period and at no point did they look like the inferior team. The only time Anaheim looked even remotely dangerous was in the first 3 minutes of overtime, where they dominated.

The canucks limited the ducks to few grade a chances but the ducks had the puck almost the entire third period.

That 2nd period by the canucks was terrific though.

letting the oppo team circle around your net all period waiting for an opening to strike is an excellent 3rd period? you have low expectations.

Hopefully higgins injury is not serious. Perhaps we could get an update from his brother.

Willie Desjardins didn’t seem to think Higgins would miss any time, but the Canucks forward was noticeably limping after the game.

The Lord was concerned enough to follow him into the medical room.

Also, Luca Sbisa had both ankles wrapped in ice.

He said one is still bothersome.

“I hope it’s just a bruise.”

Overall, I'm pretty pleased with this one. Second half of a back to back against one of the better teams in the league, and we battled through missing Burrows, losing Hamhuis, going down by 2 early to get a point, and we controlled the game at various points (there were times where the opposite was true, but nobody's perfect)

Nice to see Horvat come to life. Not just scoring his goal, either, he looked like an NHL player out there. It was nice to see the coaching staff trust him with some big faceoffs - a lot against Kesler, to boot, and even a little bit of PK time. Hope to see a bit more of that.

Man, if Daniel had connected on that beauty play in OT...he and Henrik were picture-perfect on the OT winners against Montreal and Ottawa, and that one would have been right there with them. Man.

Good effort, good game, hope they can bring the same moxie against Chicago.

I'm enjoying the games so much more this year. I really hope we match up vs. Ana if we make the playoffs.

Best game I've seen Edler play in years. He seems to be responding well to the new coaching staff. Also, Kassian's head is a puck magnet...

Just finished watching the 3rd, had to go play some hockey of my own, luckily got out of the dressing room before anyone started looking up the score lol.

Edler - Hasn't played like this in a long time. Physical, calm and jumping up into the play. Still makes the shinpad shots lol but I can live with that if he continues this way. There was 1 particular play in the third where he pinned Getzlaf to the boards after hitting him and then held him there with 1 arm and proceeded to poke check at the puck in the scrum not involving either of them. As much as his game looks to improved mentally, I think his back is finally good, those types of injuries are hard to come back from and it really limited his game. Hope to see some highlight reel hits come playoff time.

Tanev - Great defencemen but still looks to be a wee out of his element on the offensive side of the puck. Not worried as I think it's just growing pains as he's never been told to take the onus on that, he's usually defence only by deployment of the coaching staff. Him and Edler could be our top pairing for the next 5-10 years which would make things a lot easier in terms of filling out the rest.

Sbisa and Bieksa continue to get better but Weber still scares me.... We need another dman like someone said if only we could switch Yannik for Shea Weber, it'd be perfect.

On the forward side of things, boy oh boy Daniel is getting back to being equal to Henrik, looks like it was mostly just a confidence thing and this coaching staff has worked wonders for him. Looking forward to more Sedinery as the year continues. Henrik keeps chugging along, hopefully with Daniel carrying the puck more he takes less abuse.

Vrbata looks like a classic streaky scorer, gets a couple last game and all of sudden looks rejuvenated. Gotta keep him motivated as he was dragging the Sedins down there for a few games.

Higgins-Bonino is the nucleus of the second line IMO, that's where the chemistry is, I think it's fair to say you can plug in a different winger for a different look as needed. Would love to see Kassian up in this spot at some point but Vey had a decent game.

On the point of Kassian I thought he had a poor game by his own standards this year, held onto the puck too long on the wall in his zone and was a passenger of the work done by Matthias and Richardson's in the ozone, looks slower then he did earlier in the year. Might still be feeling the effects of his injury.

Hansen continues to chug along, think he should've been swapped for Kassian when we were trying to shut it down, he's good at what he does, still a good defensive grinder.

Dorsett continues to impress me, every time he makes a decent offensive play I think "oh good for him probably his offensive highlight for the year" but then a few games later he does it again. Definitely the type of 4th liner you win with. Trade was worth it.

Horvat made a strong case, winning faceoffs against some of the league's best in Kesler and Getzlaf, made some nice defensive plays, and of course the goal. Watched it a couple times and he was smart about it, went to the net but delayed and let the scrum get there first and glided in afterwards with no coverage and did the good ole stick slap "gimmie the puck" routine at the right time. Hopefully Willie throws him to the wolves next game so we can see what he's capable of.

Lack had a strong game IMO, looked sharp and composed but his handling of the puck makes me grimace every time and he had some Loungoitis on the Perry shootout goal. All in all he needs more starts but Miller is getting paid like the #1 and probably still has a lot of leash before Lack starts splitting starts.

All in all good effort by the boys, especially considering they played a dman short the whole game. Really hope Hamhuis isnt out long, but it maybe a blessing in disguise if its long enough to warrant a trade but short enough he's back well before playoffs because they need another capable dman in the worst way, and Hamhuis hasn't been that great, IMO due to the new system and getting to watch from pressbox will help his game being that he's a fairly intelligent guy and will get to see what's working for guys like Edler Tanev and to a lesser extent Sbisa and Bieksa.

Onwards to the Hawks!

Hamhuis looked like he tore something. If he is out, does Benning shop for another defenseman? I don't think the current defense corps is strong enough to lose somebody long term.

Canucks played well. Was the Arizona game just a blip?

This game was fun to watch. No Miller.

guys I can't tell you how I happy I am with Edler.

He was my favourite D-man for forever and the last year it was just so stressful with the bad season and all the minuses and the silly arguments.

he's been beasting it for 20 games now. he dominated most of the duck line-up tonight - including Kesler, something I didn't think was possible (but makes sense when I think about it).

despite the loss, the underlying numbers are very encouraging:

That was a good game. Horvat looked good and the effort was there from everyone. It's too bad we lost in the shootout, but overall it was a good one to watch.

Gotta feel for Eddie. Team played well and battled hard in front of him but still it's his fifth game, fifth back to back with a tired team, with 3/5 times Miller (as the clear number one) playing the butter soft game on the first day.

Makes no sense and is a terrible way to manage your goalies.

Backups typically will play the 2nd half of back 2 backs, and the team I felt has actually played better in front of him compared to miller the last two starts. Miller has also not been gifted just easy games, he lost in blowouts to dallas, kings, played the blues, sharks, Montreal and will likely get the hawks sunday.

I felt the last two lack starts they played the ducks better then the kings or oilers. The next back 2 back games would be against Ottawa and then we dont have any for over a month which then lands on Carolina...

I think your overreacting about lacks starts. You never know how the team will play in-front of him. I wanted to give him the pheonix game as an easier game and I know someone on here laughed after the game and told me it would have been his hardest test to date.

With that said i wont make excuses for either, lack was better then miller last night, but both need to be a bit better (miller more-so given his last few starts). I dont think its lost on anyone eddie's getting tough games right now due to the schedule, thats why he has received next to no criticism that I have seen on the forum.

We've played the Ducks twice and have two ties. I am pleased with this.
I'm actually really shocked to see people evaluating the game on the way the team played rather than the shootout result. This place has a tendency to view the team's performance through the lens of the shootout result, even though any shootout result is a tie game.

I'm... speechless.

There are signs of improvement and actual sense of fight to the team. That's all I really wanted. I'm happy with the Anaheim results.

Not a pro but don't tears usually result in less pain than Hamhuis was showing?

Yes and no. The first time I tore my LCL I felt nothing until about an hour after the game at which point me knee swelled up and the pain came (knee on knee hit). I then came back apparently too early, caught a rut and was in immediate pain. Same injury..depends how the knee is moving etc it seems.

Anyways fantastic effort last night and really does indicate that they were simply putting forth enough effort to get two points the previous night and honestly without a couple bad bounces Edmonton was a 5-2 game). Lack looks to be confident again....his reaction in the shootout speaks volumes to me. That was a fantastic shot that any save is going to be even more fantastic....and he was pissed he didn't stop it. That's what I like to see a goaltender who plays like he thinks he should stop everything.

Sbisa...started out rough. Really rough. But it seems as though it was mostly rust. After the first I thought he played well. Edler was the Edler we saw that one year in the playoffs and we all thought we had a true #1 guy in the making.

They showed heart, grit, stick-to-it-tiveness etc etc etc. They are playing for each other AND the coach. And because of that you have different guys stepping up this season to make an impact (especially up front). Bonino a few weeks ago, Vrbata to start the season and again now. Hansen the last week or so. Horvat last night. That's the type of thing you see when a team is in sync with each other.

Still some improvements needed though. That much is obvious as well, I just think those improvements are more in the "we'd like simply a better player at position X" vein as opposed to "we need to do something because no one is on the same page".

Confuses me when I see people praise Sbisas play, he handles the puck like a live grenade every time he touches it, basically the booth of the blue line
