Next year will be hard to not have McCann in the lineup without having his confidence take a blow. You don't let a kid make the NHL out of Jr and play him the whole season, not allow him to go to WJCs cause he's "too valuable to the club" and then turn around the next season and say yeah you're in the AHL now

You also don't handle a player's development based on superficial reasons like "he was in the NHL last year so he is stuck here even if the AHL would be better for him".

That was a pretty good pass from Horvat and a nicer finish from Vey though.

And Baertschi was pretty close to winning it in shootout.

I don't think it's superficial at all. These kids aren't robots and it certainly won't be easy going from being a big part of the NHL club and fulfilling all your hockey dreams and aspirations to riding a bus in the minors on the other side of the country. Not saying it alone dictates what you do with him but I don't think you can ignore it entirely either.
