We've had some fantastic voices do PBP for us this season (some more so than others), but just curious everyone's thoughts on who they'd like to see, who they wouldn't like to see, etc. to replace Bob in the booth, based on who you've heard call games this year.

Ralph stands out to me not simply because he's called the most games, but because he had almost instant chemistry with Jim. His PBP style doesn't bother me, and he has a more neutral play-casting tone that I will especially miss from Bob. Still wondering if management is at all considering Nick to move into TV though.

I hope Ralph. Didnt really like any of the other tryouts. Last night's dude was so over the top too  I can appreciate his style, it's just not for me and a complete pendulum swing in the other direction of what we're used to with Miller.

Only problem with Ralph imo is he indulges Fox going full homer.

Strangis is knowledeable, but his voice bugs me. he also has a variety of personal 'terms' he uses to describe the play, the same way Emrick uses them. they are annoying and needless.

i'm still hoping for Nickson, although I hear he wants to stay on radio. choice two is Thorne, he's still one of my favorite hockey PBP voices. dude was solid back in the day on ESPN

Al Michaels with Ken Dryden, because it's going to take a miracle.

Strangis bugs. When Fox & Strangis were talking about their respective GPAs, I was immediately irritated. When one guy says he got a 4.0 and the other guy says his was even higher than that, you know both those guys cannot occupy the same broadcast booth. Fox isn't going anywhere, so Strangis shouldn't be here. LoL, hockey shouldn't be called by a duo of geeks.

Nothing wrong with Gary Thorne. Last night's guy wasn't bad, either.

Hey, maybe Rob Blake should be the color guy next year. He has lots of experience and perspective on what the team will be going through next season.

yeah strangis kinda wore on me but he does good play-by-play in general. "knife"ing the puck gets a little tiresome. like the earlier post said, it's kind of a "emrick" tick that i'm not a fan of. cuthbert was an absolute pleasure to listen to but i don't see him coming to LA. not a fan of the forced shouting from jack michaels but he called a good game.

i imagine strangis gets the job since he did so many games already, hopefully foxy tones it down a bit next season, he was also getting on my nerves. i usually defend foxy a lot but the grunts and shouts after every goal are like dude, i know they don't score a lot but chill..

Chris Cuthbert would be my choice.

Do people here like Jon Rosen as play by play guy? I really didn't like him. He voice bores me and his yelling in a quiet voice annoyed me. People on LAKI LOOOVE him as play by play but I can't tell if they're just sucking up to him.

Cuthbert would be fantastic too, but I agree, I don't think his was a tryout, he's high profile.

I liked Rosen objectively but he has more of a 'radio voice' to me. Just an opinion.

I agree on fox he's been a nut this year. But to be fair to him he's had more color guys this year than we had goalies in the carousel year

rosen had a pretty rough 1st period imo but got better as he got more comfortable. gotta remember that was his first taste of the big show. i think his mic setup was honestly pretty awful too, seemed like it was halfway in his mouth and i think he was sick to begin with so that wasn't doing him any favors. definitely gave an "AHL" vibe at times

probably true, he's trying a bit too much to help the other guy out or something. probably a whole different animal from bob's accuracy and knowledge.

"can we get a stop here guys" "nevermind too late" then the pissy comments were turning me off sometimes. he's still gotta be professional.

What about Nick Nickson? He did PBP last year when Bob was out, but I can't remember having heard him this year.

Of all the pxp guys this season, Ralph is easily my favorite.

He'll only get better as he gets to know the team more. (which ... of course will be true with whomever they offer the job to)

Yeah, I don't think Cuthbert is up for consideration either. Shame, I've always enjoyed his calls.

I think before the season started Nickson said he was more comfortable doing radio and wouldn't be switching over to TV.

Ralph struggled once he got the big try-out, IMO. Lots of mistakes on who was on the ice, who had the puck etc.

Fox is a King and has been doing color for the Kings for ages. With Bob gone, he has taken it upon himself to make this The Fox Show. He's feeling his oats and it isn't because he wants to try and help whichever PBP is working with him: it's just because it is his show at the moment.

And it sucks. Fits the season, however.

It isn't going to matter who they choose if Fox keeps running wild. Strangis is definitely going homer with him so I fear it could be rough moving forward with them.

I want that crazy **** Michaels (last nights version, not Al)! Also, Darryl Sutter would be absolutely amazing LOL

Gary Thorne if we can dream, but as 28 pointed out, he's PbP for the Orioles.

Strangis please. Cuthbert would be great as well. Not Rosen. Not Evans. Not the guy from last night.

Honestly the tryouts have been helpful because I appreciate someone like Ralph more. He knows TV. Has an economy of words and knows the right times to get excited. The fact that Talph is even available is great fortune for the Kings.

As much as I couldn't stand strangis at first , whoever did the announcing last night made me long for his voice .

not that I necessarily want him as the permanent replacement but I was floored at how well Darrel Evans did at play by play
