Can't replace a Legend, but who does PBP next season?

Honestly, I didn't mind Michaels voice, but he had 2 issues last night. 1 - he gets overly excited, and he ends up sounding super annoying. He sounds like a squeaky version of Beninati, who is already borderline for me to begin with. 2 - He was too much trying to force chemistry with Jim. Some of the stuff he was saying to Jim was cringe.

In all seriousness, I liked how into the game he is. Would like to see if he can even out Jimmy Boy, and if so, how this dude can grow. We may have a beaut on our hands, ala TB's guy/Buff's guy.

It was one game, so he's gonna kiss some Fox booty, plus we were eliminated and have a pretty stale product before him. With a contender and some tenure, this dude would be a ****ing riot.

I like zany and loud, if it's placed in the right moments.
 
Cuthbert would be my choice, but he has a high profile job with TSN and is a fixture in Canada. Thorne will be 70 years old before you know it, and being with the Orioles and college football he is an east coast fixture. He and Cuthbert were doing the Kings a favor.

Jon Rosen would be fine for radio, but he talks way too much for TV and too fast. Also still a bit robotic and lacked emotion in his voice at the correct times. I didn't hear the guy last night as I was at the game. I'm not sold on Strangis either, although I could live with it. Is he interested in the job? And Evans did okay, but he does fine as an analyst with Nick. Fox needs to stop beating everything to death. It's getting so old. And the shout outs during an exciting play? Ugh. Pretty soon were going to be comparing him to Hayward.
 
I just got back from my beer league game and apparently the guy last night is Robitaille's pick for the job according to one of the guys on my team who's a friend of a guy that knows Luc pretty well.

None taken, I didn't get to hear the call since I was there, but that was kind of what he was alluding to when he told me.

Letting Luc have his fingerprints on any decisions which affect the on-ice product would be a big mistake.

Hell, letting him run the game experience at Staples hasn't been all that great.

that would be a huge downgrade.. i really can't listen to announcers who feel the need to shout like that. i'm somewhat out of market too so i don't really have the option of listening to nickson

You could actually stream Kings radio from the 790 website. I've had to do it a few times myself.

yeah but television is definitely my preferred avenue. i think you were able to overlay the radio feed on nhl.tv but i haven't been incredibly impressed by the service as a whole

I was at the game, and did not hear the Jack Michaels broadcast, but something to think about. He is the EDM radio play by play guy, (no TV as far as I know) with a background in the ECHL. I did listen to some of his work on YouTube from the Alaska Aces. Those starting the in the minors tend to be way over the top. Making it entertaining on radio is a different ballgame then on TV. Whether they go with him or not, I do not know, but if they do, he may be able to tone it down some with practice. It's a art, the difference between the two broadcasts. I did hear some of the pregame and it sounded like he had a good broadcast voice.
 
Why can't Nickson just do the radio and TV PBP? All we need is his voice anyway. Gary Thorne or Cuthbert would be great, but I'm not expecting either of them.
 
Oilers fan here. Most of us find Jack difficult to listen to on radio, but he'll be a great TV fit if you get him.

double the broadcasts = double the sponsors / ads

That's why Jerry Buss got rid of the simulcasts years ago when he created Prime Ticket.
 
If they hire someone awful I may seriously do what some Pens fans do and sync up radio and TV.

Fox is beyond horrible and now that Miller is gone there is no reason to listen to the TV guys if they hire another cheerleader in the booth.

Really wish Nick and Darryl did TV.
