I hope Nick doesn't feel slighted over this. I was thinking they'd go with a more established voice and a story teller. That's what made guys like Hearn, Scully and Miller such legends. They did more than just call a game, they told a story.

We better get used to the new voice of the Kings.

Biggest concern going in was picking someone that would let Jim run wild.

Choosing a 28 year old for his first full-time pro gig does not alleviate that concern one bit, amplifying it instead.

Hope he is good.

surprising to hear given the new info that nickson wanted to fill bob's role.. maybe he just didn't have the same chemistry with foxy or something

Listened to a couple of his reels. I like it--strong voice, unique, very clear. Has a good sense for when the action is heightening. Will also never be as interesting as Bob, though that's less a criticism of him and more a praise of Bob, and should work well as a counterbalance to Jim.

that was the first thing i noticed too, sometimes guys lose their **** any time their team enters the zone, he had a good feel for dangerous chances and routine plays. i gotta say listening to that broadcast with engblom in OT was really pleasant. a nice refresher after listening to doc, edzo and pierre's trash for the past few weeks. they actually let you listen to the hockey a bit instead of making it all about their call. definitely not a "radio" kind of call but that's not a knock on them at all, it's a nice complement to the visual action on TV. you don't really need to hear every single player's name every time they touch the puck if you're watching it.

maybe my only gripe would be the "yelling" for goals but that's also a highlight reel so you hear it more than you would watching a normal game. it was still under control though. tell you what, it sure was nice to hear him say “From my perspective, I know what I won’t do. I won’t give catch-phrases. I won’t give gimmicks, I hate shtick. I hate all those things.†like that's honestly the exact thing i wanted to hear right now, bringing in someone with a schtick was my worst case scenario for this situation

It's an interesting choice and one that could mean he's the last TV pbp guy for the kings I'll ever hear. Being so young he'll have the opportunity to join the 3 legends that pbp for so many years here.
i wonder how much that weighed on it really. maybe the goal is to get another long-term guy and nickson might not be making calls for another 10 years. maybe hoping to snatch another young bob miller. interesting is a good way to put it. maybe this on the newer management trying to shake things up top to bottom.

Yeah, not a bad choice at all listening to his pbp.

I noticed though on the NHL game he was not as busy calling the play the whole time - not that more old-school radio style like Bob where just about every pass is mentioned. He seemed to leave a lot of space for the color guy to ramble. I'm sure a lot of it had to do with the fact that he was a guest and it was a big deal to be calling that game.

Thumbs up from me. Pleasant voice and he can transition from routine to excited without forcing it...maybe add a touch of personality to flavor the telecast.

yeah i liked that, left it a bit more open as a conversation between the 2 of them instead of a call-call-call-call-analysis during a break kinda thing

i feel pretty good about this one

He has a classic sounding voice and doesn't seem to be obnoxious, doesn't say all sorts of cutesy crap and make it about himself. I like it.

That's a really good point. He's got a hell of a resume for his age.

He sounds good, very nice voice. Also, he understands the cadence of the game as others mentioned and he's got a nice goal call. He'll only get better too. Good call to get a young guy who can be with the organization for many years potentially.

Definitely could be worse. He's got a voice that I could easily settle in to. His tone reminds me a lot of Joe Buck.

Im also glad it wasnt rosen. He should be relegated only to the LAKI and policing the children who comment over there.
I'm happy with the Faust pick. He is young and will have a chance to grow into the mode of the great announcers we have had in LA (Although those will be huge shoes to fill)

Interesting. Didn't think they'd go the relative unknown route similar to what the Dodgers did, but that's fine. We'll see how he does.

Sounds pretty good!

Seems like the Kings made a good selection here. Easy voice to listen to, and has an pretty even keel.

Time will tell, but this guy won't be getting on my nerves with his PBP call.

Sorry. I don't like it for several reasons:

1. Nick Nixon is the voice of the Kings. He has been for decades. He just sounds like a Kings broadcaster.

2. It's totally classless by the Kings organ-i-zation. Nick put in his time for decades and now is treated like crap. I hope he takes a TV job somewhere else ASAP.

3. Faust just sounds generic. During his reel, I found it really easy to tune him out. Brian frickin' Engblom was more interesting to listen to.

Hate it, hate it, hate it.

I'll get a lot of flack but I don't like Nixon on TV. He's perfect on radio and love listening to him when I'm not able to watch. Just doesn't do it for me while I'm watching the game too. If it's true he wanted the TV gig I too hope he looks elsewhere, he's put in his time and knows his stuff.

At least give Faust a chance, I think you'll be surprised.
