Late replies, but...

True, and while one of those things happening seems reasonable (probably Patches), I think two of those things happening would make us lucky, but all three of those things happening seem unlikely; at least certainly at this point with the way TT, Jarvis, and KK have played so far.

I don't know that I agree with that.

TT has been a 65-70 point forward for the last few years. It's unlikely he'll suddenly drop to a 40 point forward (pace) when he returns from injury. In fact, I'll be surprised if he doesn't turn it around.

And KK had 12G, 29P from predominately the 4th line last year and similar production in MTL. Odds are that he's not likely to end the season with 4G, 14 points, which is what he's on pace for now. I don't see him as a 40-50 point forward, but I can't see him staying at this pace for the season.

Same for Jarvis. He had 40 points in 68 games last year. Will he really stay at a 27 point pace for this season?

I don't think any of those things in my prior post happening are an unreasonable expectation at all.

Maybe I didn't word it good enough. I meant I'm skeptical all three of those things will happen together; not individually or even two out of the three. That'd be a perfect storm (no pun intended) in our favor for all three to happen, but I'd love for it to happen.

Then making a trade for more forward depth would possibly put this team over the top for the cup.

Twitter as a "news-aggregation source" had too much influence on our society. I am glad that has been ruined, our country will be better off for it.

I feel like this is a thought to digest. My knee jerk reaction is yeah!! But I'm wondering aloud where most people get their news nowadays.

I do worry about about what we've seen from Turbo the past couple of years. In 2019 and 2020, he paced for 76 points. From fall 2020 onward, he's paced for 64.

12 points is a big drop for anyone, but in particular that 76-to-64 is basically dropping him from the tier of high-end playmakers to the tier of good-but-not-special playmakers. A little slump here and there isn't a big deal, but he has been at this level long enough that it's starting to look like he may have seen his best days.

It's not necessarily a huge deal as long as the production is replaced by a Svech or Necas getting better, but it's one of those things where I think about the chemistry he had with Aho and wonder whether we're really in a position to replace that. Maybe Jarvis can be that guy long term, but we need it somewhat urgently in the short term.

Personally I'm completely off social networks now, and long ago ditched cable TV, so I'm catching headlines and ignoring the day-by-day. When something major happens, I'll follow live coverage by the local networks. When it ceases to be immediate and burning, I'll go back to catching headlines if anything new develops.

It's a better life.

For the most up-to-date news, yeah, I use Twitter. For more indepth analysis, I find multiple articles through Reddit.

But like every source of news, I ensure whatever is being pushed is factually accurate (or as close to possible, given the current information out at that particular time).

I also recognize that because nowadays there's a concentrated effort to get news out FAST rather than ensure the complete accuracy of the info coming out, things may change as new information may come to light and I have to be willing to change my perception based on said new information.

Turbo has also been going through injuries and had to miss time in Covid protocol. Unless I’m misremembering his first few seasons were generally injury free

I mean.... yeah.

I feel like we're treading water right now. We should be fine, but I'm a bit uneasy about how close we could be to going under in a hurry, especially given how we've been playing lately.

If we are serious about contending this year, while it is nice to think that Patches could be the addition that fixes everything, we should absolutely still be looking for another add to push us over the top. If there is an opportunity to go out and get a 1st line player that will be a staple of our team for the next 5-10 years, we would be foolish not to do it. Tkachuk would have been amazing, and its frustrating that we lost out on that. We seem to always be sniffing around these big names but we always come away being left out because we have a hard and fast rule about not overpaying. But sometimes, you need to overpay when you want to buy a top player from another team, and its not like we're ever in the market for elite Free Agents.

You get what you pay for. In every industry.
