The refs are to blame for allowing this game to get out of hand. Prior to the misconduct, there was a ton of pushing/shoving after the whistles every time Skinner was on the ice. The refs just stood there and watched and allowed it to continue. It's no surprise Skinner lost his cool. It was complete BS. I then blame the team. Instead of standing there watching your teammate take late hit after late hit, do something about it. Stick up for each other. You are supposed to be teammates. Don't allow one of your teammates to be bullied like that. Push back. Next shift, go after them and make a huge legal hit. Or crap, if it continues, then know what, beat the crap out of them and take the 2 minute penalty. The teams PK has actually been good, I think the team can rally behind and kill the penalty.

The cross check on Malone was complete and utter BS. And i'm still trying to figure out how Skinner got a misconduct when that ******* Larsson was punching Skinner in the head when he was down. That is a bush league move and I've got no respect for the game. Even worse that the ****er got the game winner all because Skinner was trying to be an individual and do it all himself.

But as angry as I was/am, I just remember that Buffalo is the ********* place to ever live and we have a cup and they don't.

The best part was the ref standing there 5 feet away watching it take place, I think it was Nords that pulled Larsson off of him.

He wants to preach accountability, how about sending someone out to protect his best player? Peters was as much of a joke as the refs last night.

I have to say, I'm not a fan of Peters putting that comment out into the media. If you watch the actual video of Skinner's response, it's obvious that he had an idea of why he got the misconduct. But he didn't want to talk about it, because it's the frickin' media and you don't air that stuff in the media. And then his coach comes out right behind him and airs it for him.

Not sure exactly what Peters is doing here, but it sure looks like he's putting Skinner in a position to be his own policeman AND not take penalties or make a ref upset. Not only is that a bad idea to begin with, but making it a public issue is ill-advised.

This might be the first thing Peters has done that really rubs me the wrong way.

Granted, we don't know what went on between Peters and Skinner as the game progressed or anything behind the scenes, but on the surface, I agree with you guys. We (fans) complain that nobody stepped in and it looks like (again, on the surface) the reason nobody from Carolina did anything about it was because it came from the top down.

If I'm an opposing team, I'm doing this every single game if that's the response. Even if it doesn't get Skinner rattled, why not take a chance if nobody is going to do anything about it.

Anyhow, hopefully it's a one off because Skinner has been pretty good all year and fantastic since the deadline.

I do.

That said, Buffalo is getting to be a great place to live again. The economy is really picking up (after my whole lifetime of watching it decline).

True, but the weather just plain sucks..as do NY taxes (this coming from someone who lived in the north most of my life).

No argument about the taxes, but the weather is just something to get used to. Here in Texas it's the opposite problem- too hot. Every place has their own issue with the weather. There is something about Buffalo and its suburbs though; it really lives up to its moniker of "City of Good Neighbors." (They're only jerks at opponents' hockey rinks :sarcasm: )

See, I lived in a climate as bad as Buffalo for most of my life. IMO, things like "I like 4 seasons", "You get used to it", etc... are things people just tell themselves to convince themselves it's ok, but the winter/spring weather still really sucks.

I remember after moving here, I went back in January to handle some business. It was 10 below and my car was covered in snow. As I'm scraping the car and it dawned on me just how much the weather sucked and I openly wondered why I took so long to get out. It's not just the cold and snow, it's the dreary skies and lack of sun that make people more depressed and down. It also depends on ones age. The older (and maybe smarter?) you get, the less you can or want to deal with that crappy winter weather. There's a good reason why Florida has so many retirees. Summer's are perfect up there though, just way too short.

True, there is no weather "nirvana" (other than San Diego maybe) and every place has it's issues, but for me the length of winter, the cold, the snow, and short summers make it terrible.

You find that in a lot of places, not just Buffalo.

It really depends on the person. People always say the Mid Atlantic has great weather, but I beg the differ. Winter is extremely mild IMO and it doesn't bother me at all. But the hot, humid summers are not something I will never get used to. I'd rather live in Boston personally before some sunbelt city.

Fortunately this will be my last summer in the mid atlantic. Figures it will be an El Nino Summer with 110 degrees 90 days in a row. :help:

Yes, it definitely depends on the person, their life situation, etc...

When I was single or even just after being married, it was much easier. We could take more advantage of winter activities (like skiing) and easier to get away from the cold and go to some tropical location in the middle of winter. When we had kids, it changed everything. Even something as simple as going to the store was so much more taxing in the frigid cold and snow. Then as you get older, it's much harder on you as well. My father still lives in a very cold climate and is in his 70s. He basically becomes a shut in when winter comes.

DC would be about the worst climate for me. Still too much winter and snow for my liking and terrible humidity in the summers.

The thing about hot, humid summers down here is that you can still do things out doors, even if you may sweat, as long as you hydrate. And everything indoor is air conditioned. When I lived up north and you get 2 weeks of subzero weather, you really don't do things outdoors at all. Yeah, some people will or will claim they do, but it's not the majority. Plus, shoveling out after a noreaster just plain sucks.

As I said though, other than maybe San Diego, there's no weather Nirvana. It's why my plan long term is to have a summer place up north and a winter place down south.

I suppose I differ in the humidity aspect, growing up farther inland near the Mississippi. The humidity here in the mid-Atlantic as far as I've experienced is much more tolerable. The winter also seems a bit milder. More snow/rain and less pure ice storm.

My stance on the humidity is probably similar to how those up north feel about the cold. It's really not preferable, but without at least some period of hot, humid summer I feel kinda out of whack.

Nothing like going out, even after dark, just grabbing something from your car and still being drenched in sweat coming back inside :)

Colorado is dry, little humidity. 300 days of sunshine a year. We had a foot of snow yesterday and three quarters of it is already melted.

I miss the humidity of CT because I don't smell the outdoors here. It smells like dry dirt. I get off the plane in Ct and I can smell trees, grass, water. I actually miss the humidity.

Recently moved to Utah and agree about missing humidity. It kinda sucks being sweaty all day, but humidity at night is like a warm blanket that hugs you to sleep. Here it just gets cold at night.

Still pissed. Now moreso about Peters' comments. What message is he sending, not only to Skinner and the team, but other teams as well? "Hey, feel free to take potshots and runs at our best players, we will do nothing to put you in check, and publicly call out our players if they react." Skinner concussion incoming...

You have to have more than 1 guy in the entire lineup that could put anyone in check. As much as this team is improved, it's softer than ever. And that's saying something. Seriously the toughest guy on the team is shorter than your average middle school student.

I really wish one of these defenseman had a mean streak. Not like a Gleason (well maybe a young Gleason), like Seabrook. He's a mean SOB, but he's a very good defenseman. The one way Jay Harrison was a better 6/7 than Jordan is that he would fight anyone anywhere anytime, despite the fact that he would undoubtedly get his ass handed to him.

Edit: If I'd watched the game live I'd have posted the video where my namesake is calling the Chiefs a bunch of *******.

I was really hoping Jordan was going to become a Gleason that could skate, which he almost is, without the mean streak. Even on the rare occasion guys stick up for teammates (which I can think of maybe 5 instances), it's like they do it tentatively, afraid they're going to get **** on by the coaches. And it can be done without taking a penalty.

Remember when Gleason could skate? Those were good times.

Well, he could, relatively speaking, but put his "peak skating" years in today's NHL, and he's still probably behind a guy like Jordan somehow.

Yeah I guess in a straight line Jordan is a decent skater, but the dude can't turn around. It's like, the basic thing a defenseman needs to do.

You can literally have four seasons in a day, and during spring and fall it isn't that unusual. It's a "layers" state, good idea to always have them. I used to work outside and there were days were I went through all of them and at some point was still sweaty.

Generally though it's sunny and warmish. You can't believe the difference being a mile high makes with the sun. If the sun is out it automatically feels ten degrees warmer than whatever the actual number says.

In the late spring through mid summer we have violent thunderstorms in the late afternoons, that blow over in ten-twenty minutes.
