I love it. They sign Chariot, someone who is totally going to push them over the competitive edge and they're celebrating it on the trade board like some major victory over Waddell

We are so in their heads it's not even funny

Such a sweet power move by them, showing Waddell they still can play with the big boys in free agency.

I understand this reference.

I Grew up outside of ronaoke. My dad worked at the RCC part time and I got into rebels games free.

Ahhhhh I'd love to see the heads explode over that sweater making a comeback.........
This would be epic. I remember when they played at the LancerLot in Vinton. There would be an overcast layer of cigarette smoke by the third period.

ohnannsen isn't making another dime off Carey Price. Unless Bergevin is still the GM in 2026 to give him another extension past his age 39 season.

I may be wrong but don't agents get paid when the players get paid? Johansson would then get his cut of the $64 million remaining to be paid in Price's contract.

I'm confused isnt that how literally every thread on F26 ends? Food or booze?

You forgot raunchy sexual innuendo....can't leave out the "hot wife" and all....

aho wasn't on the call yesterday because he was on his way to the airport to catch a plane to rdu for a press conference where dundon will present him the signing bonus in cash.

dundon is hoping aho doesn't realize only the top layers are hundred dollar bills and the rest are coupons for buy two get one free bumblebee tuna at winn-dixie.

Given that Dundon is so cheap, wouldn't those coupons be BOGOs at TopGolf?

Sorry, just skipped to the end, too many pages. Has Aho said anything himself yet about the offer sheet?

No, you're right. Well, sorta. Johansson will get his cut of that $64 million guaranteed. Yes, he will still make money off Price, but it's already locked in. He won't make any *new* money off Price. Lots of guys fire their agents after signing their last contract. They still get paid, but it's locked in, and there's nothing more for them to do.

No, which is getting very curious to me. I think we're owed something.

I do love that MC fans have spent so much energy trying to seem superior to us. It really shows their insecurities after looking bad with such a head scratching move.

That is the only reason we are on our 6th iteration of Aho offer sheet on the main board. Its time to Queen Elsa this thing.

No kidding, it's reminding me of how LA Lakers/Yankees fans act towards fans of smaller market teams. They will let you know their team "runs" the league and pays your salary and if you don't respect their authority then you deserve to lose your team.

At first I didn't really care that our team and Columbus beat them out for the last two playoff spots. I was just happy to see the Canes in. Now though? Yeah I'm glad the two smaller non-traditional markets knocked out the "mighty" Canadiens.

I think Aho is just being super cautious. I mean what’s he going to say, or why would he say anything until the ink is dry on his new deal.

I imagine he’ll start the schmoozing with CAR very soon after the OS match is made official. He’s going to have to mend a few fences regardless, and I’m sure the message will be, “ I never wanted to leave...blah, blah, blah...”

If he’s still a ppg player in January, I’m sure all will be forgiven. If he struggles from the gate or if last year was a fluke (not likely), he might be in for a rough ride. And he’s stuck here for at least 3 years I’d say regardless. They’re not going to trade him right after putting up all that bonus $$ in the first few years of the deal.

Owed something? This is business. He used the offer sheet to get the term he wanted to get a big payday in 5 years. Y'all are acting like its a crime that he signed the OS.... There hasn't been many of them, but the player signs the offer sheet roughly 95% of the time.

It's not just that. They're still bitter about 2002. They're still bitter about 2006. They are still bothered we jumped up past them to #2 in the draft last year. They are currently bitter we kept them from the playoffs this year. And now they're bitter we not just matched their financial might in FA but we openly dunked on them in the process.

It's not a crime, obviously, but he's going to have to comment on this. It's not going to hang out there all season. The fans, his teammates, people around the league, everyone gets what he did, but he's going to have to address where his head is at sooner than later.

That $8.454M AAV covers for all the apologing and smootching he supposedly needs to do.

He left money on the table WHICH ALSO made the matching versus picks 1-2-3 extremely easy to do.

"I really, really, REALLY hoped Carolina will match it."

I agree with the latter, but not the former (depending on one's definition of an offer sheet "existing").

Why would a team present an actual offer sheet to a player unless they've already reached a verbal agreement? Take the Aho example, given that we now know MTL initially went after Brayden Point. I can't believe they presented Point with an offer sheet and were turned down...I'm sure there was a (short) conversation about Point, then focus turned to Aho. So, it's my estimation that 99% of offer sheets are signed.

Second, no one has any idea of how many of these conversations occur in the first place, much less how many reach a point at which they are very nearly signed. My guess is that conversations about many of this year's eligible players has already occurred, but only one has resulted in an offer sheet being presented.

"Offer sheet" is the form in CBA Exhibit 6 by which the hostile team and the player inform the prior team that the hostile team is officially offering the SPC described within to the player and that the player is willing to accept it (after which the prior team will elect if they use their right of first refusal).

At this point that specific offered SPC obviously has already been formed through the finalized negotiations between the hostile team and the player.

Who cares if he would choose us over somewhere else? It’s professional sports. There’s no way he grew up in Finland dreaming of playing for the Carolina Hurricanes. If he ends up with a local wife and kids they’ll love the area, and put lots of pictures up of it on the wall when they’re living in Vancouver or wherever the hell he ends up at some point.

Once they’re on the ice they fight for themselves and each other and whatever jersey they’re wearing. Contracts are all business and money. Whatever you’ve got to do to get what you think you want. He’s in a good situation here and didn’t want to go through the trouble of holding out knowing he’s getting good money until he’s ufa, when he can really crush it. He can’t go to arbitration. This was his only move to control anything. He wins now. He wins later. We win now. We may not even care later.

There should be no hard feeling because there shouldn’t be any assumption of true and deep loyalty. Williams came back because it made a great story, I’m sure he loves it there and we probably beat everyone else’s offer.

I would feel better if we could get some comment from Aho. And I’d feel really good once it’s officially official that we matched. I hope this “waiting till the last minute” ploy won’t come back to bite them.

« Technical problems » to justify Aho being unable to join the press conference. yeah right. He will probably wait for the contract to be officially signed before giving an official statement. I sure am eager to hear what he has to say. I was not expecting him to get involved in such a game. Is he still our future captain?

Here in Montreal everyone thought Aho was going to play for the Canadiens. Two days in a row, Aho’s picture was on the front page of our main newspaper. Crazy 24h.

Edit: not the sports section. The whole newspaper front page.

My guess is Johanssen told Aho not to say a single world until a contract is signed and everything is official.

That’s what I’d tell my client if I were an agent. There’s no benefit to talking before all cards are on the table.

Or, there could have been actual technical problems on the press conference and he simply hasn’t made himself available outside of that. That’s a totally realistic possibility.
