They're extremely second rate and have been for a long time. They just haven't admitted it yet.

The Canes (and we're also second rate, don't get me wrong) have been far more competitive in the league in the timeframe since they've existed, and that's with 10 years of being totally noncompetitive.

Deep down Montreal fans know and understand this. That is why they act so arrogant. They are, to borrow their own favorite word, "posturing."

Still better than Toronto.

I disagree. Toronto hasn't been super competitive either, but regardless of that, they still have huge clout. They are the New York Yankees of hockey. Even if you hate them, think they're arrogant, think they're underachieving or whatever, you cannot deny they are legit heavy hitters.

Montreal is not a heavy hitter. They pretend to be, they try to be, but under all the pretense and nods to tradition, they're just a very average franchise that has had precious little success over the last few decades and their influence has dwindled to almost nothing.

What success did Toronto have to make them a heavy hitter? A large part of their ability to attract UFAs is related to the high number of Ontario born players making the NHL relative to Quebec born players.

I'm talking about the impact they have on the league overall, not only what happens on the ice. Toronto casts such a massive shadow, it doesn't even matter if they're not any good. They can be crap for 20 years and still be *that team* that everybody talks about and it's impossible to ignore them. That's the difference between Toronto and Montreal.

I think my habs have been shit of late but I think you overestimate Toronto's impact when they suck.

For a long time despite being a habs fan I was hoping Toronto makes the playoffs. It was like pity. Not just from on an ice perspective but with the whole Kessel trade, the way JFJ handed out contracts and so on and so forth. It wasn't pretty. Again, habs had some dark years too but it seemed like for a while neither of us were very relevant. Even going as far back to when Rick Nash and others were the promised sons who would come to Toronto as UFAs...they did not.

Their impact reached a low a few years back. I think Matthews, Marner and signing Tavares helped with their legitimacy.

TORONTO (ALONGSIDE FLORIDA) HAS NOT WON A SINGLE PLAYOFF SERIES IN THE CAP ERA. LET THAT SINK IN.

So you're the future generation. Judge the January me now, please:

The whole pending RFA scene is gridlocked, but that other Finn 1C team captain Barkov took very team friendly 6 x $5.9M only three years ago.

I don't think Aho will push for the last drop but values the timely security of a signed long-term contract.

Low country coast
We need a special jersey for the Habs game, I’m feeling the Ronake Rebels but a play on the Habs instead of Leafs
I understand this reference.

I Grew up outside of ronaoke. My dad worked at the RCC part time and I got into rebels games free.

Ahhhhh I'd love to see the heads explode over that sweater making a comeback.........

What if Canes matched like two days back but the Central Registry is keeping it hush and stalling to create drama?

I love it. They sign Chariot, someone who is totally going to push them over the competitive edge and they're celebrating it on the trade board like some major victory over Waddell

We are so in their heads it's not even funny

LET’S MAKE OUR EVIL CACKLING RESULT-ORIENTED ONCE THE SEASON STARTS. THERE IS NOTHING WORSE THEN PREMATURE CACKLING.

IMAGINE CHIAROT WINNING ART ROSS.
