History: I was never a fan of the Whalers until they moved to NC.

Prior to that, Canadians, Islanders (Bossy/Trottier/Potvin idols) & finally Canes since they’ve moved to Greensboro.

When living in the Triangle, I had season tickets for many years and was fortunate to be at Game 7 for the Cup and also versus Detroit when we lost. Got an opportunity to see Canes Florida farm team a lot (now sadly Nashville’s), particularly when Lorentz played in Ft Myers (btw: a friend of mine works with the team and says Lorentz is a high quality person).

They've been complaining all over Twitter about how whiny and toxic our fanbase has become, too. Bruins and Caps fans have piled on about it as well.

I will say sentiment is changing about the Canes & fans but it's probably a combination of the team being successful and the hubris/trolling by some of our fans & our social media accounts.

Bullies never like it when the bullied are able to punch back. For the better part of 20 years we've been the league punching bag, with our fans bullied endlessly over fawnings of the Whale and pinings over Quebec City. Now that we're a legitimate contender with a roster that isn't going anywhere and a house that is packed most nights (well, it would be if not COVID), they're upset that their recycled insults no longer land.

f*** em. If they're mad, I don't care. Maybe they shouldn't have been endlessly punching down on us for the past 10 years if they didn't want us to act like complete asshats when roles finally reversed.
