Chytil after the EN goal:
View attachment 630000

Most likely he was mad because he put the puck in his own net and was benched for it. That was only his second shift of the period.

There was a stretch in that 3rd period where Gallant went with only two lines. Zibad's line and the line you mentioned, Goodrow, Vesey, Laff. That surprised me as well. Chytil wasn't the only one sitting, Panarin and Trocheck also took a breather. For a few shifts, he went back and forth with those two lines once we tied it up early in the 3rd. Haven't seen that before. Shorten your bench to two lines?

If you watch the full game replay, check it out. It's right after we tied it up or after we get the lead, I forget which. I'm guessing Gallant didn't want them to answer right back for the 3rd time in the game.

I looked at the shift chart and Panarin and Trocheck played fairly regularly in the 3rd period. Chytil, on the other hand, had one shift with Gauthier and Blais and one shift with the 2nd PP unit where he scored the EN goal. He was demoted and benched. Now it's on him to respond by upping his game.

Living in the Carolinas and being forced to watch the local announcers is brutal.
I will take Sam's gaffe's any day over these homers.
I used to be able to listen to Forslund.

This Maniscalco hack is just plain awful and allows Tripp Tracy to become even worse. They are so bad that watching Hurricanes games in general is brutal.

I’ve figured out a work around to get the MSG feed.

Did you start having special feeling about this team yet? You recently complained about it compared to the last years version (I doubt you had that feeling in December of 2021)

That was literally why I said that felt special. Lol

What a weird game. I thought both teams played well. Tons of weird bounces, poor officiating yet again. It's becoming epidemic re: reffing. And I'm saying that knowing full well Rangers got the better end of it. I really hated that broken stick call. Kinda took the wind out of the sails of the ending of a very fun game.

The great thing about tonight? A lot of strong contributions from lots of players. Hard to pick the 3 stars.

Zibby, Kakko, Tro, Kravy, Bread, Laffy, Goody, Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Schneider, Trouba and even Shesty with a timely save.

The big thing is, we beat one of the best teams in the league because we out-simplified them in the 2nd and 3rd. Most of our goals came from just throwing the puck towards the net. That's the kind of win a young team can build on.
You meant "we out Carolina'd them, didn't you? Said to GF with their 1st goal; "you see, thats what Carolina does. They push and push, hound that puck, fight and crash the net, get the puck TO the net.....until they score. That's what we don't do.

Usually.

After watching the highlights... pretty sure Chytil was defensilvey irresponsible for the 2nd goal, I'd assume that was his man down low, dont know where he vacated to... and obviously the beautiful deflection. I guess that's why he was benched.

I think our defensive system breeds way too much confusion when there's a lot of moving parts. It's a 'zone-man' whatever that means but it far too often leaves people wide open in front because of confusion/misreads.

I thought both goals against that line vesey who’s been great all year but terrible on this line had two breakdowns. Couldn’t get puck out on the 2nd one and the first one he lost his man. Didn’t think chytil was to blame for either goal.

Wasn't the Chytil deflection their 3rd goal, not 2nd?

Edit: Confirmed. It was Carolina's 3rd goal. Looks like Vesey and Chytil lost the puck battle on the wall, the puck squirted out and ends up with Chatfield at the right point. Laf goes to Chatfield while Chytil covers the middle area and deflects the puck on its way to Shesty.

Comments? Thoughts? Put it in the Chat field.

Talking about #2 and #3.
Tuba was left on a 2 on 1 down load for goal allowed #2. Chytil no where in the picture.
Chytil immaculate deflection against goal #3

Miller went to the wall to help out, which was why Tuba was left alone. Again, Chytil (and Laf) lost the puck battle on the wall and at the point. Canes excel at board battles, and we were one step behind the whole 1st period.

If Miller plays that man, there needs to be adjustments. It's usually a Center down low. I have no clue why Chytil was where he was..

Considering it was Chytil benched, I'd assume the coaching staff put the onus on him... Forget putting him out there against after the next goal scored.

We have the luxury of video replay to watch it over and over and dissect that play. The puck got worked up to the right point to Chatfield. Chytil is there. Laf goes there too. Chatfield manages to get the puck back low to Statsny, who moves it to Sketch at Shesty's left. Chatfield traps both Chytil and Laf. That's when Miller goes to Statsny and both Laf and Chytil kind of glide their way to the low slot but it's already too late as Sketch already goes royal road to Necas for the one-timer.

So, if Chytil is engaged with Chatfield, it is Laf who abandons Statsny at the half-wall that's the problem. Laf is trying to help Chytil, but they both lose the board battle. So, on goals #2 and #3, a Cane manages to beat two Rangers twice on the walls. That's just losing puck battles instead of winning them, leading to odd-man situations.

Chytil shouldn't be there to begin with, I think that was the point.

Well played. I like the pun.

I don't remember the sequence that led Chytil to the point with Chatfield, so I'll just leave it. But in hockey, players have to play out of position sometimes, many times. It's a fluid game.

Playing the puck, attempting to play the puck or not dropping your stick should probably just be an intentional stoppage where the faceoff takes place in your own zone. It's not something that takes place often enough to talk about during the offseason, but it's probably something no GM would complain about changing.
But the point of the rule is that playing with a broken stick is dangerous, and your scenario reverses the incentive for a player defending in his own zone to drop it. Now if my stick breaks while I'm pinned in my own zone, I can just continue to play with it and get the stoppage that my team needs. Hell, a really crafty player can even try to subtlely break their own stick if they're really desperate for a stoppage.

That's why I do not like our defensive system. WAY TOO MUCH confusion far too often.

but if there's a break down, down low, it's typically the defensemen or Center responsible.

what a big f***ing win. the goals weren't pretty but we deserved them, we were the better team for most of the game. refs helped us out too.

Yeah, but when things break down, players try to cover for one another. And if the puck goes our way, then we say great play by Joe Ranger. He really saved Brody Ranger's ass there.

Goal #2 was all on KAM. Not sure why he left his man to pressure a player that was no threat. The third goal was a lost 2 on 1 puck battle. Usually Chytil is pretty good at winning board battles especially in the defensive zone.

KAM reminds me of Marek Malik. That motherf***er could play a game like he was Stevie f***ing Wonder on skates, f*** shit up six ways from Sunday, and end the night a plus f***ing 2.

I hate this kid. He fails every eye test I have, but comes out smelling like a rose. I guess I suck at watching hockey, because to me, KAM is a bad hockey player who got first star of the game. I can't figure this shit out.

This has to be a joke right? Like what a horrible horrible take.

I’ve never been more disappointed in a stranger before.

Lolhe has his rough stretches but the positive outweighs the negative. Trouba on the other hand...

I said it in the GDT...

KAM is carrying around the corpse of Trouba. He's been an absolute anchor

He should be playing with Fox or Schneider.
Yeah Miller is a good defenseman. Nowhere close to an elite "he'll steal Norris votes from Fox" level D but a good defenseman. And he probably would look better with Fox or Schneider but Lindgren-Trouba and Harpur-Trouba would offer close to no offense.

Pretty sure you’re 1000% closer to Stevie Wonder than Miller if that’s what your eye test tells you. Yikes

Miller may take some risks pinching at times but he’s explosively fast and has a long reach and breaks up tons of plays. The fact that he plays with Trouba is really his biggest issue. Miller can be downright dominant at times and he’s still so young. He recovers from mistakes quickly as well.

At times, he’s our best skater not named Fox.
