"Sometimes when I try to understand a person's motives, I play a little game. I assume the worst. What's the worst reason they could possibly have for saying what they say and doing what they do? Then I ask myself, 'How well does that reason explain what they say and what they do?" Petyr Baelish

-What they do and say : Sell we like Smith, Sell we like Leonard, sell we like Benson, sell we didn't even start looking at Michkov situation at the combine and introduce fear that he might sign an extension with his team. Talk to SJ about a possible trade up, talk even to ANA about number 2 spot....

-What I assume then : they want Michkov and want to make sure he there at 5

-How well that explains what they do and say : PERFECTLY
I imagine we entertain the trade up to spot 4 option to draft Smith until draft day, then decline because the price is too high. Grier, a rookie GM, won't just then give us Smith for free: why do habs want Smith that bad? Why habs don't want Michkov that bad? Montreal may have more russian connections with Bobrov than SJ. On a rookie GM, still trying to prove he legit, that might work.

PS: yeah I'm bored :dunno:

He destroyed the kid...

Said all his teammates, coaches, and managers know he's a shitty person! And I'm not even joking.

Said he sent him a text message so he can talk with him and the response he got was absolutely brutal.

Said he's an extremely individual player and he expects him to drop out of the top 10 at the draft!
It's comforting to know that if we do in fact draft Michkov he will probably be mentored by that other selfless, dressing room leader, Dubois.

I haven't got a problem if Michkov has an "alpha" like attitude, it just means he believes himself to be that good. From most accounts I've seen he takes his game seriously. The only report I've ever heard about his so called attitude issues are from this single report, nowhere have I heard it backed up anywhere else.

Weren't players like Kobe or Jordan perceived to have similar "issues" did they affect their ability to become all time greats in their sport? If anything it raised the bar of their teammates.

The guy is a gifted hockey player point blank, all these other so called issues or personality traits are trying to portray him as a locker room cancer. I ain't buying it. Nor do I care.

The "culture" of this team is being well established and could easily absorb a player like Michkov even if these reports are remotely true. Especially if said player comes with the talent that he can provide.

I've clearly made my mind up, that much is obvious, to me Michkov is the only pick to make at 5.

I also realize I'm setting myself up for huge disappointment if it doesn't happen. It just seems so obvious to me. As much as I try, I cannot wrap my head around the thought of passing on him.

It makes no sense to me. Not one lick!!

Jobless "scout" trashes Russia's top prospect in many years because the guy didn't want an impromptu interview. Hold the presses -- this kid is trouble!

It's pretty predictable that the "cancer" talk comes out and it's doubly predictable that it's funnelled almost entirely onto the Russian guy. It's not even sad at this point, just rote.

Every journalist who's actually tried to dig into Michkov has said good things about him or reported the good things others have said. In any case, it doesn't matter -- at this point the noise is much higher than the signal.

So in your opinion, he trashed him to get a job or what?

What's the logic here?

He's in Russia and he trashes the best player ever since Ovechkin and you think he'll get fans down there with such a position?

I agree and i think Hughes is over-doing it by playing the media. Trying to make GMs think he wants a C when he wants Mitchkov will not impact the outcome of picks 2 through 4 IMO.

I just think it's not a coincidence that info comes out saying the habs want to move up after Grier says they like Smith a lot.

I think it's pretty clear Habs wants Smith a lot. He's their first pick at 5 because I never received a bad signal from Smith, all the reports, comments, etc. He have all the important tools.

How could you though? You only saw him scoring goals and doing Michigans...

Is that all I saw? Didn't realize you were using my eyes. I see a whole lot more than that, in what I've seen of him. This thread alone has plenty of video showing more than just Michigans and prolific goal scoring abilty. You say that like it's a bad thing.

Don't bother with him, he likes to invent "facts" that fits his narrative.

Quite the prognosis, maybe we should do some blood work first? I ain't buying him being a cancer. I've never see an inkling of it in any touranament play. I have seen his team benefit from his production and skillset though.
I'll admit his tournament play in 2022 and 2023 was really good. Not a single on-ice mistake and zero talk about his attitude at all.
