me too , right when he started taking selfies with fans in the crease and signing the glass. God mode activated

Well, for me it was more about the one (or two?) year remaining on his contraxt and winning all those trophies, the writing was on the wall, but hey, to each his own.

I also got lambasted at my workplace for suggesting it.

The Russian government are engaged in a war, engaged in fighting sanctions and in making sure ordinary Russian have bread on their table so they don’t rebel. The last thing on their mind is hockey players.
Yeah and Russian hockey players in North America are afraid to wear a jersey with a bunch of colours out of fear for their family in Russia's safety as well as their own when they return to their homeland. But the last thing on their mind is hockey players.

Imagine in 3-4 yrs, looking back and we traded...

Michkov
Mailloux
etc, etc....

For Will Smith - who may not even be better than Michkov.
1,000,000% this. Michkov might be the best player in this draft. I don’t get why you’d trade and a premium for a lesser player.

Beck was literally just drafted...

It's like saying Slaf is a bust.

We don't know what Beck will become but he looks like a great pick so far.

You're giving up too much value, banking on the fact that Fantilli will become that much better than the 5th OA, AND the 31st OA, AND the 3 other players you're adding.

Horrible value and very dangerous trade. Fantilli is not a sure thing either.
We overate our prospects.

I remember people saying what a great pick Mesar and Mysak and Ikonen were...,

Many scouting reports have Beck as a good third line center.

Harris is #5 D

I include them as trade fillers at this point

Dach is still is a wildcard and more importantly not a #1 center.

The 5 pick and 31st still hold good value

You are underating Fantilli - a power forward with skill who plays the hardest position- center.

We will never win without a #1 center

They don’t want him. You underestimate how bad these gms/scouts such. I think it’s pretty much a guarantee Michkov will be available at 5 if we want him. Can’t see him going before 8.
I think it depends if they yank completely the decision out of the hands of the scouts or not. In making their lists, scouts have been weighing contracts, character, leagues and sometimes even political situation forever. It’s fine if the GMs handicap the risk for the scouts. The problem starts when the scouts don’t even have a say in the matter. It’s bush league and the sign of a poorly run organization. Wang’s Islanders 2.0.

How is that a good news? I'm afraid all those talk about Michkov are for nothing. San Jose will end up drafting him. This have been a disapointing season. I'm fully expecting him to be drafted #4. Just one rank above us (kinda like Pastrnak in 2014)...
Atleast SJ drafting him will make the habs dodge a bad mistake and pass over him , SJ knows better.

Your gonna be the 1st to complain if Michkov flop…

As far as I know, Michkov may be the pick. It is entirely possible that the hope of HuGo is to blur the situation as much as possible for other teams. There is no reason for any team to make their preference known, and when they do, there may still be a heavy dose of deception in this manoeuver.

Gotta wait until the draft. In the meantime, it would be nice if folks on this forum could stay level-headed and more polite to people of different opinions.
I'm not the type to complain about team moves, but I think that Michkov should be targeted if available and the top 3 centers aren't. You won't read complaints from me if it flops, a) because I don't complain about team moves but rather entitled fans, and b) it's a gamble I would do in Hughes' shoes.

Could be that HuGo are putting on a theatrical exercise in making it known that they would trade up for a center.

And that’s why I didn’t reply to you but to one person in particular :)

Trading up is somithing I like as a Habs Fan! Sharks-swap is possible... Going for Fantilli is something Sam Pollock would have tried if he were with us? ..... In the Future. ;-)

Well this isn't wrong to say the Kremlin doesn't care about Russian hockey players in general or Michkov specifically. That said, the Russian Federation domestic and foreign policies do have an impact on Russian hockey players and Michkov.

It's wild that the first in-person chat with Michkov will be in Nashville.

Pretty tough. This whole scenario reminds me of that cheesy Kosner movie.
