Reinbacher at 5 would be so disappointing. Trade down. You can get him at 8-10.

You probably can't. Arizona will snap Reinbacher up at 6.

I hope he does but I don’t think he will.

Normally you want high drafted players to be good offensively. So being able to QB the PP would be one of the things but 5 on 5 production would as well. The fact that Hutson and Mailloux already have a shot at this is one of the reasons why I don’t want the Habs to go D at #5.

Trading does would also be disappointing but it would be better then Reinbacher at 5.

He can still be good offensively without QBing our PP because other players on the team are better in that role. The fact that we have Hutson and Mailloux coming up is one of the reasons why Reinbacher is attractive, you can't have an entire D core with offense focus and only being OK in their own end.

Ryan Suter doesn't QB a PP1. Shea Weber shouldn't have done it and didn't have to when Josi was there, but was there for his shot. Slavvin doesn't QB a PP1.

You can be a #1D in the NHL without QBing a PP and you can still put up points on defense without QBing the top PP unit. It's not a requisite here.

Having someone who can log almost 30 minutes a night in the play-offs, who integrates offensively, shuts down offense and can relaunch our transition game and offense is a valuable, valuable commodity and we saw what happened to Tampa when Cernak went down. They crumbled.

I think we are in an easy position. We take whoever is left… the ONLY way that doesn’t fly is if the powers that be don’t rate Smith in the top5 but rather in a lower tier where he’s comparable to the likes of Leonard Benson and such.

Michkov at 5 is a no brainer, I won’t even entertain any possibility of skipping him.
Bruh.... that's the whole point. You won't (neither am I) but you know this is far from true from the brass' point of view.

For the life of me, I don’t understand people who want to trade the first guy we’ve gotten in 30+ years who finally has a shot at a 50 goal season…
Bc a soft 50 goal regular season perimeter scorer means nothing in the playoffs if they have no room in tight checking games. CC hasn't even lasted through the rigors of the regular season, on a team with no expectations and now is in a holdout pattern for a huge contract?

He's simply too small. And opposing teams will eat him alive. We have had 30 years of small forwards and they dont last. Val bure, ribero, oleg petrov, saku, samsonov, gionta, gomez, Cammalleri, desharnais, etc...

It's insane to think CC will be different. Look at the remaining teams - not one has a small player leading them.. his value to this team is as a complimentary player (nothing more) an asset in the group, but if we are going to pay big bucks on him we are locking ourselves in for continued futility..

He should sign a reasonable contract at $5.5m aav, he'll be rich for life. But at least this will allow hugo to build big and fast around him, so he can actually play.

Thank god hugo isn't buckling. He will be traded. Mark my words.. some other team will blindly throw $10m his way, just like pipsqueek johnny hockey or playoff warrior debrincat.. interesting how Tkachuck is twice the player in playoffs now..

Sample size is small but he has 12 pts in 20 playoff games in his only playoff action at age 20

.......As a complimentary player. Huge difference. How many pts did he get in the SC final against a grizzled playoff veteren team? One of the reasons we made it as far as we did was bc of Corey Perry.. end of.

If Montreal is afraid of drafting Michkov and he falls at 5 with the big 4 going in front of him, do you think Hughes picks up the phone and offers 5th OV for Cooley ?

I see them take Leonard at 5 if Bedard, Fantilli, Carlsson & Smith are off the board with the 4 first picks and they don't want to take Michkov.

I can see them also take Reinbacher, as well.

Awful take.

So awful I don't know where to start.

I agree about Caufield holding out not being good and a starter to get traded, but your whole perception of those playoffs is wrong.

It would be but I wouldn’t trade down. Hopefully HuGo have enough sense to make a good pick at 5 in an amazing draft year. If they don’t, it says a lot about them.
You have very little faith in this new management. Was it Slaf and his usage over whoever your pick would have been? I like the way they are heading so far myself. 5oa will be a good player whether Smith, Benson or any of those “not Bedard Fantilli or Michkov” picks.

If habs don't land Michkov or Smith at 5, I'll be disappointed. Maybe more so then when they drafted Slafkovsky. I can'thandle two disappointing drafts in a row!
I like the Smith highlights a lot. Instead of this trade-down if not Michkov scenarios, I hope they somehow land Smith AND one of his wingers (I think Leonard will be really good for example).

Galchenyuk was a 4th liner on the US national junior team. We shouldn't have drafted him. As well, he had a meddling dad and he liked to party. Galchenyuk was overrated in a weak draft.
It's been a while since I looked at that draft, and like you, I thought it was a weak year. Still it turns out many players from the first round made quite a carreer in the end. Obviously Filip Forsberg and Morgan Reilly, but Hertl, Teravainen, Ceci, Tom Wilson (!), Vasilevsky, Skeiji, Trouba (!), and Matheson. Add to that Lindholm and Dumba. But point wise, Galchenyuk is still ranked #5 from that draft, despite his weak carreer.

Not that you don't make some good points here, but I think some of your post is way off.

Caufield is a goal scoring machine...............and is a lot tougher than you give him credit. Durability during the season and then the playoffs, is something some bigger dudes haven't been able to handle either.
You say, mark my words he is getting traded? Bold for sure.

Think we will agree to disagree.

we scored 8 goals in the series you refer too (TBL). Cole contributed 3 assists. Participated in 37.5% of our goals. That is more than adequate.

You probably can't. Arizona will snap Reinbacher up at 6.
Leonard seems to have taken over the momentum when it comes towards who the Coyotes are taking. But to be fair I expect them to take Leonard or Reinbacher here too.

At 12 they could take a solid forward too, so that helps them reach for Reinbacher
