This is not officially confirmed but an ideal scenario if it comes to be. Hutson plays in the state he was born in, faces his idol and does so on the road where it'll be less crazy than if he were to play his first game at the Bell Centre.

I thought all he needed was to somewhat train with the NHL team for it to count as a contract year, not actually playing a game.

Pretty sure it's prorated if you sign and play in a ongoing season, not that it really matter. Good for him if he got the whole thing.

He doesn't need to play a single game with Montreal as he signed as a 20 year old and his contract is not eligible to slide. he has already burnt the 1st year just by signing the contract before the end of the season. If he was 19 he would need to play a game to burn a year of ELC.
