Post-Game Talk: Canadiens run into a brick Woll - Lose 7-3

I don't know if I'm allowed to say it.

But essentially, for draft positioning.
The way I see it, it's either no mans land or a playoff spot this season, unless a major injury happens then the boys might sink in. But I don't see us picking top 5 so the experience our young core of players could gain from a playoff round is more important than cultivating the losing culture and picking 10-12 instead of 16.

At this point I think we should still hope for wins and to build up on the team recent success, until the playoffs are clearly out of reach at least.

You can ask specific questions for a given player and it will provide the stats. That's all I did.

Dobes better be the guy now. Monty, you get to watch.
Montembeault probably has the net until the end of the season unless he goes on a few stinkers and Dobes stays solid as he as been for a month or 2 stretch, and Montreal keeps pushing for a playoff spot. Otherwise it's his net to lose.

Now 2025-2026 is when I could see Dobes stealing his spot as the default starter.

Not good enough.

Just because he makes some incredible saves at times doesn't make him a good goaltender.

Proof is in the pudding.

Missed wayyyyy too many chances . I knew it would bite us in the ass They had to kill that PK at the end of the 2nd to keep it 3-1

This one feels like our season. We got neutered by our biggest rival tonight.

Laine being net neutral for "team defense" on this stat is absolutely hilarious considering how 2 Toronto goals came directly from his turnovers. Garbage stat
If he had caught the puck at the boards, the third goal might not have happened. But the fact is that was Dach mistake, who was out of his position.
But it was just two or three mistakes and the whole game counts for the stats.

I wasn't refuting you just found the game log that's all. I think some of the games look worse than they are because of the low shot amount but yeah looking over his log he is average

Montembeault has a .891 sv% in his last 20 games and .886 sv% in his last 10.

Let's stop pretending.
Let's stop pretending what? Using save percentag as an argument on a team that was horrific defensively for most of the season doesn't prove anything. Monty is 12th in goals saved above expected. Funny how people were complaining that he was too good for the past 2 years and now he sucks for some reason when his stats are comparable to other goalies in similar situations.

Team Canada didn't choose him because he's a vet with intangibles, he's a good goalie. Big whoop, he had a stinker tonight as did the entire team. He stole a point against Dallas just last week. Was peppered in shots while being shorthanded against the Yotes but made some monster saves to keep us in the game when we came back.

You know this playing Pezzetta 3min a game stuff is really starting to f*** up our rhythm for a full game, it’s so bizarre. If we don’t call someone up for tomorrow I’m at a loss for words

Yeah, it's pissing me off, too. Pezz is unplayable. MSL doesn't trust him. We don't need him, waive him. Who cares if he gets picked up by Chicago or San Jose?

3rd line should be Anderson with Evans & Armia. Dvorak & Gallagher need to be part of a 4th line. Bring up Tuch to give them some speed & size that they're losing in Anderson.

Look pal...Montembeault is not a money goalie. You can do all the squawking you want, it won't change the cold hard truth that "Monty" is basically the second coming of Brian Hayward.

You can sit down now.

He hasn't been good since the year turned to 2025. Only game he played really well was the Dallas game.

He lost against Chicago finishing with a .846 save percentage. We managed to pull out an OT win against Vancouver with him finishing with an even worse .800 save percentage.

He had his 2nd best game of the season against Dallas that we lost in a shootout (best game was 1st game). He had a .972 save percentage.

Utah he was back to below. 900 finishing. 888.

Tonight was a bad game, he finished. 818.

4 of his last 5 starts since the New Year have been well below average starts, but Montreal didn't need him because they were getting quality depth scoring with the 2nd line coming around, Evans & Heineman on the 4th line adding depth scoring.

He's .500, 2-2-1 in those 5 games. Dobes went 4-0-0 against better competition (Monty got the 2 weakest teams in Utah & Chicago).
