The thing is, I don’t trust the Habs to develop Demidov or any of their prospects. Their players constantly haven’t lived up to the hype or potential.

To everyone on HF who thinks that their team has had it tough, think about this:

No team besides the Canadiens or the Ducks have not had a point per game player who played almost a full season since the 2021-22 season.

The last time the Ducks had one was in 2017-18 (Getzlaf).

The last time the Habs have had one was Alexei Kovalev, in.. 2007-08.

Thank goodness we have Demidov now..

Edit:

More fun stats (thanks @Deaner)

The last 40 goal scorer for the team was Vincent Damphousse in 1993-94.

The last 100 point player was Mats Naslund in 1985-86.
They were build around Price much of that time and employed a tight defensive system. Therrein, Julien,

Timmins was in charge of the Habs draft for 20 years, during that span, the Habs were the only team to never draft a player who scored 70pts or more in a single season. Trevor Timmins might be the least profecient person in the history of hockey, he drafted both Galchenyuk and Kotkaniemi at 3rd overral.

Btw personally I have been a Habs fan for only 2 weeks so far. But I feel the history, due to being a Porin Ässät fan between around 1994-2016. Very similar depressive fandom it has seemingly been for Habs fans as well. Very similar colours too, its been an easy transition.
So you'll be gone when Laine is gone?

Won't have to wait much longer with Demidov in the pipeline.

I know the topic has been beaten to death, but I really wish we could've seen him and Michkov together. That's not a shot at the Habs, just disappointment that we as hockey fans missed out on a potential decade plus of magic.

I remember how much I rooted against the 2010s Habs because of the DELUSIONAL tire pumping and franchise chauvinism. In recent seasons, I've softened quite a bit and started to root for them, their history, and their unique culture to make noise in league.

It took them half a season to make my hatred return.

35 years since anyone got 40+ goals. 10 years since anyone got 35+ goals.

Crazy but some of those numbers are likely older than the majority of posters on here.

The Habs history is really strange, having been loaded with generational players for over 60 years nonstop (Morenz ‘24 to Lafleur ‘85) then having no real offensive star at any point in the past 40.

If you look at their franchise ranking, the only high ranked guys post-1980s are Saku Koivu and Tomas Plekanec, career highs 75 and 70 points respectively. It would be odd for any franchise, but especially the Habs are the last one you’d have expected to go through such a drought.
I remember once looking at the captaincy list and thinking "man that's a fall off". Not that the individuals are bad per se but when you see the preceding illustrious listing, the comparison just isn't there. To me, the last one to fit the somewhat illustrious genre is Guy Carbonneau.

I thought this statement was wrong but is actually mostly right.

During the time period that Trevor Timmins worked for the Canadiens, they had two players who did get to 70 points that they themselves drafted. The first is Saku Koivu, obviously not drafted by Timmins. But for whatever reason, I thought that Timmins joined in 2001, but it appears he joined in 2002. Meaning the other player to get a 70 pts season in that timespan (Tomas Plekanec) was also not drafted while Timmins was employed.

Max Pacioretty came reasonably close a few times when scoring levels were at their lowest, and both Pacioretty and Subban would've been decent bets to get there in 2013. Also, it's probably worth noting that the two best players drafted by Timmins were not playing forward (Subban and Price).

This goes to criticism often levelled at Timmins that he tended to play much, much too safe with his forwards selection. There is a very good claim to be made that his LONE "risky" selection was actually his second best (so far) with a very legit chance at being his best (Cole Caufield). If you list his five best forward picks in that 20 years span, it looks like this :

1 - Max Pacioretty
2 - Cole Caufield
3 - Brandon Gallagher
4 - Arturri Lehkonen (Lehkonen is probably debateable with Gallagher, and could end up passing him. I'll give Gallagher the advantage for now, since, you know, there's a difference between Phil Danault and Nathan McKinnon)
5 - ... Chris Higgins. Seriously

Suzuki, Demidov, Hutson will all go ppg at some point in their careers

There is a light at the end of the tunnel
A lot of Leafs fans laugh reacting to this for some reason

Friendly reminder that Nick Suzuki already beat your team head to head in the playoffs and your team hasn’t won a cup in almost 60 years

I started watching hockey in the early 80s and Montreal was the team I hated the most for whatever reason, but if I really think about it now, these days, Montreal is just blah to me....don't give them much thought....which probably means they aren't really doing very well to be noticed

It's kind of funny....I was just googling Timmins to see timeline of employments in Montreal and read a quick article with the executive summary including this:

Timmins, the Canadiens Director of Amateur Scouting, is considered to be one of the best in the business. Since 2003 (Timmins’ first draft with the organization), they have drafted 82 players in total, including the likes of Carey Price, Ryan McDonagh, Max Pacioretty, P.K. Subban, Brendan Gallagher, and Alex Galchenyuk. So what makes Timmins so good?
