But you see it's different, Reebok or Adidas or whoever makes hockey jerseys these days, I have no clue, have made contributions in hockey.

The Royal Bank has been sponsoring ice hockey athletes in the Winter Olympics since 1947. RBC is also giving $20 to the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation for every sweater sold.

I'm too old to care about a damn sponsor. The arena is wrapped in sponsors. The arena's name is a sponsor. Almost every team is owned by someone who owns a business. So long as I can see the main logo nice and clear in the middle of the jersey I just can't muster up anger that a capitalist sporting event is now 1% more capitalist.

Speaking of assumptions lol

You don't know me from a hole in the wall, you've concluded that I think everything they do is well thought out because I dared advance the hypothetical that 2 of Canada's largest corporations, may actually have more plans than just slapping a logo on a jersey and cutting a cheque.

I don't know that for sure, and frankly, I don't care...doesn't change anything for me.

I just figure making a move like this, one would have to anticipate some backlash so one would assume that they've prepared accordingly.

I see they've announced that 20$ of every jersey sale will be going to the Montreal Children's Hospital. I imagine we'll see more initiatives roll out over this 5 year partnership.

Is that so hard to believe? And does that in turn mean I think everything they do is well thought out? I mean frankly that amount is paltry if i'm being honest lol.

I get why you've said that though, you're in your feelings right now...it's been a difficult 36 hours since they announced this hellish partnership, but take a deep breath man.

I'm just a dude who tunes to watch some hockey on illegal cable from time to time, the Montreal Canadiens rarely, if ever get a dime of my hard earned cash :)

No just you.

Its fun...this place we're posting on, with all the advertisements, is called a discussion board...it's where people get together to have discussions about stuff.
My dude heard ya loud and clear. 😉 You’re just this guy who sometimes posts on a message board and sometimes watches hockey for free and doesn’t care about stuff. 😎 It’s all good man, it’s a free country we can say things to each other and it doesn’t matter. It’s what I love about this place.

Trust me I agree...I was just being facetious.

It's always funny to me that a sponsor is an utter disgrace and absolutely disgusting but if they "designed" the jersey then it's cool to have a big fat Reebok logo in the bottom right.

If the Montreal Canadiens win the Stanley Cup with Ronald McDonald hugging the CH they still won the Stanley Cup.

Yeah but THE POINT is, the ad WILL NOT increase their chances of winning a cup.

Montreal's jersey is part of the culture and it's a tradition.
For seattle to have ads, no one would care because there's no tradition or culture associated with Seattle.

The RBC logo is ugly, it doesn't fit in the jersey, it takes all the mythical aspect of the jersey and shits on it.

All im going to say is, if this team doesn't WIN the Molson Center will get empty real quick and those jerseys wont sell much.

it will be really hard to watch the habs on TV with that shitty logo on the jersey.

Plus its a bank, its just a complete turn off.

Neither will making donations to various charities.

Should they stop that too?

Why is it Montreal Canadiens fans think there's only culture In Québec? Lol

I promise you, there's a culture in Northwestern USA.

Just bring it to the local seer or talisman...problem solved!

Important to mention for every sweater with an RBC logo on it sold. Meaning, you become a walking billboard for RBC for a 20 dollar tax write off. It's a very good deal if it pans out. Nobody in their right mind would walk around with an RBC logo on their shirt, but slap it on a Habs jersey, and you're likely to get some billboard walkers to pay up and do some free advertising for them.

Erik Engels, stop. You have been umasked.

Oh we've gone from Marc Bergevin to Eric Engels now.

Amateur hour...yawn.

Anyways, good to know that you think the Habs should stop their charitable endeavors because it doesn't help them win a Cup.

What a ridiculous post lol

Ahhh ok OK...so because the Montreal Canadiens was able to write it off, it means everything they've done in terms of charity is meaningless.

Got it lol

Boohoo!!

If I had any desire to own a hockey jersey I'd wipe my tears using the RBC logo.

Next time you're having dinner at your local soup kitchen, make sure to find out if that meal was a tax write off.

Wouldn't want you to turn into a broke shill.

The freaking irony of shitting on the Habs for entering into a partnership for profit, while simultaneously shitting on the Habs for participating in chartitable endeavors because it won't bring a Cup.

Wild lol

I don't like that it's on the front, should be on the shoulder......................let's hope they end up looking like those crazy jerseys in the european leagues....lol
At the very least blend the ads in with team colours where they are equally as noticeable while not being extremely ugly.

Why? They just made the offer. Habs ownership said yes.
Do you seriously need a reason to hate banks and big corporations ? Regardless of the ad, I say f*** RBC, all the other banks , billionaires, and corporations. All want our money so the CEOs can buy their 4th yacht, 6th villa and their bunker for the upcoming apocalypse they helped creating. f*** them all.
