The problem is not the logos on the jersey, the problem is the implementation.

Just look at this, I don’t think there would be that much outrage at all if it was the one on the right.

I just put the two images together, and zoomed in a bitView attachment 583961

The Sponsor probably doesn't want his logo being bastardized, and wants to keep the same color schemes that their customers are used to seeing from the, It's all about the brand.

SO WHY IN GOD'S NAME IS IT OK TO TRASH THE MOST ICONIC JERSEY IN THE NHL TO MAKE 0,05% MORE MONEY, MR MOLSON!!!!

Seriously, I hope Molson and RBC get so much backlash from this. They stand to lost much more money that they'd ever get from this.

I didn’t know not caring about what appears on a sports team jersey is an indication of one’s standard of living. I’m sorry man, I just think there are bigger problems in life than the visibility of corporate sponsorships.

Call me when someone can’t put food on their table or is the victim of political persecution because the habs put a corporate ad on their jersey.

That’s not the argument at all, just your lazy reformulation of it. You said we’ll survive, so no need to react negatively or take a position on the matter. Just accept it. And I said, survival shouldn’t be the standard we live by to judge whether something is good or bad. And from there, you went ad hominen and now strawman. So getting worse, battery man.

This is probably true, and you’re also if you kind of have it blending in, kind of defeats the purpose of the add no? Lol

They want people to see it, so as a business aspect, I understand why some companies would not want to change the logo or colour

Maybe it's just me, but I don't see a problem here.

I have like three buddies that live in Montreal, and they are basically telling me that This is literally the only topic people are talking about, and people are pissed.
Well yeah, there's no actual hockey going on.
I don’t live in Montreal, so I can’t exactly confirm, but going from this thread, people don’t seem to be happy.

Honestly, I’m kind of torn in between, I think a legendary jersey like Montreal should never be touched, but I do understand the business side of things
Habs fans are never happy lol

Of all teams, it took the Oilers to stem the tide and I’m sure their fans are loving it. They’ve also got no ads on helmets, for their home games:

Now, it could just be a temporary measure and they might jump in later. But for now, it’s nice to see.

Dude, I don't feel the need to write a novel explaining why something this trivial doesn't matter. You get trivial responses because the issue is practically meaningless.

At the end of the day, this makes no meaningful difference in the quality of someone's day to day life. Everyone will survive this change, as they did when they added logos to the boards, or on the helmets.

This does not make sense lol.

The star players and owners are the only ones that really benefit from increased revenue and higher cap, this has nothing to do with fans. I could give a crap about the cap going up...10 million or 100 million cap, contracts are built around that framework.

Scratch that...Maybe Leaf fans with their busted contracts 😅

Now explain to me why this is (understandably) good for RBC and NOT for the Habs?

If during the next year there is any scandal (racism, discrimination, tax evasion, corporate malfeasance) that comes out from RBC... they have their precious logo on the Habs jersey every night. And vice versa.

It amazes me how people think that narrating the logic of capitalism is somehow an argument for anything as opposed to having a principle of some kind. RBC just pissed all over your favorite jersey and your reaction is “this is all just a normal consequence of the economic system I’ve been born into, so, I guess I should accept it and allocate my emotional ressources to more important matters and also let others know that they must not react negatively to the actions of our corporate overlords”. Great take man. Just beautiful.

RBC bought the ad space that was sold by the Montreal Canadiens as a result of a vote by the people who bought the teams and are currently using their wealth to subsidize hockey teams.

I much prefer my take to having my blood boil and getting mad about what a billionaire owner decided to do with his play-thing.

In the end, you are going to bed seething mad about a small advertising patch on a jersey and I'm going to bed without it affecting my life at all.

Or when players were forced to wear helmets or when they took out the red line or when visors became mandatory etc etc etc.

The Edmonton Oilers chose to not have one, then why couldn't Molson have done the same for us. Jesus Christ it's not even mandatory!
Not our Geoff. He chose to announce it at the same time that Suzuki was named captain. In your face, Habs fans!

Next on the agenda: how long before Reggie Tremblay, Marc deFoy or Mario Langue-sale bring up the fact that Geoff plastered an English logo on a Habs jersey?

It should have been BRC, Geoff, as in Banque Royale du Canada.

Let a linguistic shitstorm begin.

My work is done here.

This isn't true...all players benefit from an increased cap since it raises the floor.

You don't give a crap about the cap going up, but you're also not a member of the NHLPA or one of the 32 owners.

Didn't Molson not save enough money for the 2-3 seasons we had Cap Space? Absolutely disgusting.
not sure I get the relation?

Exactly, I understand why it is good for the owners and players (I'm sure they'd wear clown make-up to games if it put another mil in their pockets)...But he is spinning it like it helps the fans and helps us sign players...which it does not, salaries will scale with the cap.

Cause the NHL and hockey in general, isn't already fraught with scandal as is.

Right.

Well if this helps league revenues increase, it will invariably lead to an increased salary cap, which is what all fans claim to want to see.
