This is a fair point. Goes both ways. But I think the Canadiens's image >>> RBC (or any bank). At least for now.
Or maybe Royal Bank of Canada is the Montreal Canadiens of Financial Institutions?

*ducks for cover*
lol that's cute...because Greenpeace could never be accused of exploiting "scandals" for their own benefit.

I hate this. As if they weren’t making enough money already. But hey, it’s business and they can do whatever they want with their sport team.

Well if this helps league revenues increase, it will invariably lead to an increased salary cap, which is what all fans claim to want to see.
I’ve never seen ‘a higher cap’ on a fans wish list …again except for desperate Leaf fans.

Wait...so you haven't seen fans/media complaining about the fact the cap has essentially been at the same point for the last 3 years?

The whole "flat cap" thing is a figment of my imagination?

No one is ever talking about "well when the cap rises in 2 years, we can do _______(insert roster move there)"?

Dude, I don't feel the need to write a novel explaining why something this trivial doesn't matter. You get trivial responses because the issue is practically meaningless.

At the end of the day, this makes no meaningful difference in the quality of someone's day to day life. Everyone will survive this change, as they did when they added logos to the boards, or on the helmets.

Nobody, other than you, has made the argument that we won’t survive. Pretty sad, huh? You’re all by yourself arguing against a point nobody has made.

But the good news is that Eric Engels has taken up your side of the argument, so you’re in excellent company.

It’s all proportional. It’s not like the league is going to draw from a new pool of talent by paying higher salaries. The NHL already has the monopoly and the players are already decently paid. If this were some trade off for lowering ticket prices, fine, but it’s actually to line the pockets of millionaires.

Thats the name of the game though, and it's never changed.

I'm not sure why we're arguing whether or not increased revenues for the league which leads to an increased salary cap, which leads to high salaries

Is a good thing for the owners, players and fans.

It's a meaningless thing. No team really benefits from a higher cap. It just makes it easier to do lazy thinking. If the cap dropped by 50%, you'd have the same odds at the cup. Work more efficiently with the same constraint everybody has, because if you can't do that now, you won't do it with a higher cap.

Why? I was happier when there was no cap, salaries weren’t as high, when I could walk to the forum and buy a ticket for 10bucks and the Habs were winning cups. You sound like Bettman.

It amazes me how people think that narrating the logic of capitalism is somehow an argument for anything as opposed to having a principle of some kind. RBC just pissed all over your favorite jersey and your reaction is “this is all just a normal consequence of the economic system I’ve been born into, so, I guess I should accept it and allocate my emotional ressources to more important matters and also let others know that they must not react negatively to the actions of our corporate overlords”. Great take man. Just beautiful.
I'm sincerely curious what power RBC – or any advertiser – gains by displaying their logo? I see passive brand-awareness; you obviously see something more insidious since you used the term "Corporate overlords".
