More like how does Dubnyk make this team over Ellis and Price? Both of them were better than him at camp. Oh well, as a Habs fan I'll just hope that Price can do better next year, as he'll be eligible for the 2007 team.

Did you watch camp? Ellis was the worst goalie inthe scrimmages.

Hmm, the team isn't bad, but I'm not exactly optimistic about this entire thing, especially after looking over the US roster. Some weird decisions by Sutter, who seems driven to never pick the obvious choices out of camp.

For people wondering why Dubnyk made it....

Well, Julien Ellis quite simply played himself off the team. From all reports a Pogge/Ellis combo was in the works until Ellis quite simply sucked throughout the entire camp. Still don't understand why they wouldn't have taken Price over Dubnyk though, as they were pretty comparable during the season and in camp, and with Price being the heir-apparent to Canadian goaltending it would seem logical to get his feet a little wetter.

I'm still concerned with the fact nobody seems to know how Pogge will react to seeing a lot of rubber as he saw the fewest shots by far out of any goaltender at camp and plays behind a very good defense normally. Were this last years Team Canada, Pogge would have been the best choice hands down, but this year we will allow a ton of shots and I hope he can handle it, as Dubnyk in net makes me even doubt a medal.

Man, our defense is so young.

wow were you even at any of the pratices? probably not. if you were sorry, cause Dubynk sucked from Day 1. Even their fans are righting him off, how can you even expect this guy to go to war for Team Canada?

he looked like crap from Day 1 til the final day. Probably some polictics involved.

anyways GO CANADA GO.

Enough about the stupid goalies, we got a stud number 1 goalie and the other 3 sucked and Sutter decided to go with Dubnyk who was good at the summer camp and older. Theres a thread DEDICATED to canadas goalies already, go post in there.

THank you for making your way into our city and watching the camp. You are a very deticated fan.

I was at day 1. Change word Scrimmages to Scrimmage. It was only 1 game. 8 goals on 27 shots, Dubynik was not great at all with a great defence in front of his face 4 goalds 17 shots is also very bad. Plus He sucked from Day 1. Sucked at scrimmage, sucked at the UBC game. He sucked with a good defence in front of him, he couldnt play great with a bad team in front of his face, (hey to a certain extent you have to show some sign of greatness when outplayed) and he still sucked. Oh man he sucked at camp and he made the team. Not very convincing.

Ellis missed the team. So should Dubynik.

I can see Ryan Omarr there, but Pyatt does not deserve to be there. His season has not been stellar. And I am glad to see that Canada rewarded Downie for his Sportsmanship as a team player. I guess when you are a bully in hockey you get what you want. Maybe Hartsburg is afraid of him after the WIndsor/Hound series last year.
Pyatt is a great shutdown centre. He deserves to be there. He does have some offensive talent. He is averaging more than a point per game.

Downie as well deserves to be there. He has a nice blend of talent and he is an aggitator. The Vancouver fans will love him. So what if he made a mistake. He deserved a second chance and he has playing very well in Peterborough.

Price was apperantly prone to soft goals throughout the camp and this hurt him big time. I think Sutter basically said he didn't let in as many goals as the other 2 trying for the back-up, but most of his goals were stoppable.

I'm not very up on the US college players, but if Toews is good enough to be up there with Kessel, shouldn't he be higher than a 4th line or extra on this, fairly weak, Canadian team?

If they were picking on the season so far it would be Pogge and Ellis. If it was just the camp it would be Pogge and Price. Dubnyk did not get in on either basis IMHO. :shakehead

I don't mean to be rude - but exactly how many WHL games have you seen?

The guy making the decisions coaches in the WHL and so sees Pogge, Price, and Dubnyk all year, and is extremely familiar with all three. I know you've probably poured over the stats for all three, but I'm going to guess that Sutter probably has a better handle Dubnyk, Price, and Pogges capabilities than virtually anyone in the world.

Very happy with the team selected.

+ Pokulok - very pleased and can't wait to see what he can do.
+ Pogge - really deserved it he's had a fantastic campagin

+/- Price - sort of surprised not to see him there, I thought he was deemed a lock. Still, I'm very content with the goalies we're sending.

- Esposito - I really wanted to see him out there.. that's too bad
- Ellis-Plante - personal fav. would have liked to see him garnish the back up role.

I can't wait to see these guys dawn the sweaters Boxing Day vs. Finland. Do the exhibitions start on the 20th?

I'm a bit suprised Price got cut... but apparantly he let in 3 goals on the first 3 shots he faced in the final exhibiton game... he needs to be mentally stronger than that to be in net for Team Canada.

Little and Setegouchi suprise me even more however... I think Team Canada will sorely miss their firepower... especially Little. He's an incredibly crafty playmaker... I would have loved to see him play with Pouliot or Latty. How did Steve Downey make the team? The guy is like a worse-skating Darcy Tucker... why him over Gouchie'?

One thing's for sure: Canada isn't going to out-score teams... they're going to be a griding, hard working team.

Tom Pyatt

The hockey analyst Pierre McGuire, a former coach for the Hartford Whalers who is now with the Canadian sports cable channel TSN, said the Rangers' fourth-round pick, 18-year-old Tom Pyatt, could become known as the steal of the draft

He was also among Canada's best performers at the last world under-20 tournament

Pyatt represented Canada last spring in the under-18 and the CHA knows and likes his game

Dubnyk has a .916 SV% and a 2.39 GAA despite a slow start on a poor Kamloops team that takes a TON of penalties. (They have been shorthanded more than any team in the league.)

Ellis meanwhile has a .909 SV% and a 2.96 GAA on a similar team to Kamloops.

:dunno:
