WJC Team
Justin Pogge and Devan Dubnyk will take the spot in net with Pogge likely tagged as the starter.

The blueline will have skaters Cam Barker, Kris Russell, Luc Bourdon, Kris Letang, Marc Staal, Ryan Parent and Sasha Pokulok.

Kyle Chipchura, Blake Comeau, Dustin Boyd, Dave Bolland, Andrew Cogliano, Jonathan Toews, Dan Bertram, Guillaume Latendresse, Steve Downie, Tom Pyatt, Michael Blunden, Benoit Pouliot and Ryan O'Marra will represent Canada at forward.

WHL- 2 Goalies, 2 Defenseman, 3 Forwards
QMJHL- 0 Goalies, 2 Defenseman, 1 Forward
OHL- 0 Goalies, 2 Defensemen, 6 Forwards
American College- 0 goalies, 1 Defenseman, 3 Forwards

-Interesting as to who was chosen to be the backup goalie. (Most likely starter is Pogge)
-Espositio does not become the 6th player to play in WJC as a 16 yr old
-The Canadian blue-line is particularly young with five of the seven defenceman just 18.

Good luck boys :handclap:

Time to put team allegiances aside; they've got all of Canada supporting them. Can't wait for December 26, I'll be there to cheer them on in person.

More like how does Dubnyk make this team over Ellis and Price? Both of them were better than him at camp. Oh well, as a Habs fan I'll just hope that Price can do better next year, as he'll be eligible for the 2007 team.

Just guessing, but it could have something to do with Dubnyk playing great against Red Deer their last couple of meetings, as well as somehow backstopping what is a brutal Kamloops Blazers team to a respectable one game over .500 record.

He didn't have a great camp, but neither did Ellis or Price.

Best of a bad lot? :dunno:

Sasha Pokulok made the team as the 7th defenseman. Sweet! Bet taking him at #14 is looking a little better now...

From everything I was hearing, Ellis and Pogge were going to be on the team so this is a little surprising. If you're right then it's pretty obvious that this camp meant nothing.

Didn't Ellis let in 13 goals in 1.5 games? I doubt Prices 3 goals on 3 shots to start his half yesterday helped him.

He did stop 17 shots on as many shots after that though. Seriously, how confident can Sutter and his staff be with choosing Dubnyk knowing that he gave up 10 goals in 4 periods of play at camp. They must be praying that Pogge will get the job done.

Big ups to Pokulok, who (along with the team that selected him) takes a lot of flak for the #14 selection in 2005. Sounds like he had a lights-out camp, offensively.

The safe money says that a younger eligibility player, who opted for college as opposed to the CHL, wouldn't have had a prayer. Nice.

I doubt that. I'm not defending Dubnyk for his poor play at the tryouts, but Sutter has seen Dubnyk often in the WHL - and has a much better handle of what he can do than most.

If Pokulok went to the Q instead of NCAA he wouldnt have been picked 14th overall and he probably wouldnt have made this team :)

Hmm, the team isn't bad, but I'm not exactly optimistic about this entire thing, especially after looking over the US roster. Some weird decisions by Sutter, who seems driven to never pick the obvious choices out of camp.

For people wondering why Dubnyk made it....

Well, Julien Ellis quite simply played himself off the team. From all reports a Pogge/Ellis combo was in the works until Ellis quite simply sucked throughout the entire camp. Still don't understand why they wouldn't have taken Price over Dubnyk though, as they were pretty comparable during the season and in camp, and with Price being the heir-apparent to Canadian goaltending it would seem logical to get his feet a little wetter.

I'm still concerned with the fact nobody seems to know how Pogge will react to seeing a lot of rubber as he saw the fewest shots by far out of any goaltender at camp and plays behind a very good defense normally. Were this last years Team Canada, Pogge would have been the best choice hands down, but this year we will allow a ton of shots and I hope he can handle it, as Dubnyk in net makes me even doubt a medal.

Man, our defense is so young.

I can see Ryan Omarr there, but Pyatt does not deserve to be there. His season has not been stellar. And I am glad to see that Canada rewarded Downie for his Sportsmanship as a team player. I guess when you are a bully in hockey you get what you want. Maybe Hartsburg is afraid of him after the WIndsor/Hound series last year.

What about these lines..?

Pouliot - Cogliano - Latendresse
Bolland - O'Marra - Bertram
Comeau - Chipchura - Downie
Boyd - Toews - Blunden
Pyatt

Barker - Russell
Bourdon - LeTang
Staal - Parent
Pokulok

Pogge
Dubnyk

Dubnyk certainly did not play himself onto the team with this camp. Feel the position was conceded to him going in. Maybe Ellis or Price might have dislodged him if they had played their socks off. Ellis definitely didn't do that. Frankly I cannot see how a team like the US don't light up Dubnyk. Looked porous as hell during camp and scrimmages. Hopefully Pogge can come through.

Pyatt isnt going to be the extra forward.

Oh, so only players who have had Stellar seasons should be picked? Take a look at every other teams roster and see if that is how they picked out their roster. And its not like hes even having a bad season either, still averaging more then a point a game.
