This is starting remind me of England and their goalie problems in football.

I would expect this change from a proper coach, but Spott is an idiot. Probably let Subban play.

I agree, he's probably worried about Binnington having a great game, and gaining confidence, then leading Owen Sound over Kitchener in the playoffs. Just like he gave Murphy all that ice time to benefit Kitchener. I'm not saying he does this intentionally, but it's subconscious.

You are right. It definitely manifests at this level.

Fortunately, at the Olympics we only need 1 great goalie and Price still has at least 10 good seasons to go. Hopefully we find at least 1 other top goalie.

Ward and Luongo are decent, but probably not good enough. The good Fleury would suffice, but you don't know which Fleury you're going to get on a yearly basis.

i don't like the way they're starting to run only with 19 year olds - it means you constantly have an inexperienced goalie in the net. if possible, they should be coming with an 18 year old and a 19 year old, so the starting goalie is at his second wjc.

i wish they'd invited fucale to camp to get a look at him, even if he was unlikely to make the team

The third goalie should be 18 or younger, it should be a rule

Blaming Subban for this loss is stupid and a blind need to find someone to blame.

This year it was a total team collapse, they didn't show up.

I thought they played someone else in the elimination game when Binnington was the clear choice. Maybe it was someone else

Yeah they started Stajcer (who was hurt) in the elimination game against Kootenay. Im not sure it would have made a difference though since the team was already down Hishon and Wilson, Hishon being a crippling blow on its own.

Binnington should have started because he was money in those big games in the Mem Cup. He's a big game goalie through and through.

I knew this one would get pinned on Subban. Classic. He didn't see the first 3 goals at all. 4th one was a nice shot but he should have done a better job cutting off the angle. I thought he kept them in it long enough to give them a shot, but Canada flat sucked most of the first half of the game.
Just saw the first goal.

Prior to the goal the US player take 2 tight angle shots. Subban looks flustered.

It could have been 4 goals from perfectly executed 3-on-0 breakaways and people here would still be blaming Subban. The knives were out before the tournament even began.

I'd like to see how cool and calm anyone is when a rugby scrum is going on at the top of your crease while the puck is about to be shot from the high slot.

There was no scrum when Barber took his shots. Go look at the replay.

He made those saves... lol. Had the States not scored on that play people would be calling Subban a battler. Give me a break, that whole sequence was a defensive disaster, and you blame Subban?

Re-read what i posted. I said he looked flustered. Looking behind him, losing track of the puck.

Not sure what you point is. For the umpteenth time i have not said Subban is the reason for the loss. But he sure as hell didnt look good.

I really hope Canada is too stupid to realize that Smith is by far their best goalie and start Price, Ward or Luongo

I'm happy to see a lot of Canadian posters defending Subban here. He was not the problem. Canada was thoroughly outplayed in the first 2 periods, in all 3 zones.

To the rest of you - quit making excuses and scapegoating your goalie. You're still THE hockey power, but just not as overwhelmingly dominant as you think you are.

Thankfully we don't have to endure the always popular "5 of our best players are in the NHL, otherwise we'd destroy you guys" refrain this year.

.920 % sv vs .750%

Sorry. Didn't know that the SV% was SOLELY for the BIG SAVES.....By the way, my post was irony. I think the world out of Vasilevski and my post was just to point out that blaming Subban was just as stupid as blaming Vasilevski on the first 2 goals.

Absolutely right he was not the problem.

Dont think many if anyone is "making excuses and scapegoating subban".

Again that was because of the gong show that was the defensive play in front of him. He was struggling to find the puck because the play was ragged, unstructured and just a defensive disaster.

Everyone needs to stop riding Subban. For ****s sakes it was everyones fault, he didn't play well at all and neither did the team infrong of him.

Every game he plays marginal in people don't blame him for anything. He's not that great and just cause he's PKs brother doesn't mean he deserves to get slack.

IMO Binnington should've been the goalie from the start, Spott was a horrible coach all tournament. Yes Subban played great against the US and Russians in the round robin but he's too risky IMO. He's very incosistent.

way too many people looking at the boxscore and I love how this thread was only rehashed after the defeat seriously I hate when people turn the WJC to a propsect pissing match... Subban has been one of the best if not the best goalie in the CHL and has been solid for the better part of the tournament. Stop seeing this through bias lenses heck I will be the first person to say Hamilton has been bad this tournament, but the Subban hate is so unwarranted

I didn't think winning the Pool was in Canada's best interest. Obviously, it wasn't. I didn't watch the game but I understand, like last year, we came out slow as molasis. Playing a quarter final game might have helped.

For us, the last decade has been crazy. After 5 years of utter dominance, we have laid an egg for the last 4. Time for Hockey Canada to rethink how it approaches this tournament.
