As someone rooting for USA, I'm more afraid of Subban. Binnington may be more technical and the "safer" choice, and I didn't like Subban's exhibition game, but I think he's the kind of guy who would rise to the occasion and play big against USA or Russia.

Subban has looked shaky and uncomfortable for both games. He was the worst goalie during the selection camp and was outplayed by Binnington in the pre-tournament. Spott is just not a good coach.

I only saw the first period of today's (Slovakia) game so far but I thought Subban's rebound's were scary. He just has an awkwardness in net.

I thought he was fine. I haven't seen the Germany game but I've watched today and frankly don't see what the hysteria on HFboards is all about. Subban was solid and none of the goals were his fault.

1st goal - no chance, weak D if anything
2nd goal - an absolute snipe by a KHL player, that is a goal in any kind of competition
3rd goal - 5 on 3, some slick passing by the Slovaks, not the goalie's fault

Yes, he is a little weak on the rebounds (seems to give up a lot), but he's still a junior, he's got plenty of time to work on that.

Seriously, reading these boards I would have thought Slovakia would be up against the worst goalie to ever play the game of ice hockey. He made some nice saves, you can't expect elite performance from a junior.

Germany and Slovakia shouldn't be scoring a single goal againt Canada, let alone 3.

And why not? Did you watch today's game? Slovakia outplayed Canada in the first 30 minutes (or so).

My point stands, you can't blame those goals on Subban.

That's how it is in the WHJC, Canada can play half a period and still end up with a rout against the weaker countries. Even if they "outplayed" Canada, they barely shot the puck, none of these were quality shots.

They outshot Canada something like 11 to 5 in the first. They scored 2 goals, they sure had quality shots..

someone early in this thread said that Canada doesn't have any goalies that can steal them games. Lucky thing is that if Canada ever finds them self in a situation where they need their goalie to steal a game they deserve to lose.

Subban pulled today, 4 goals allowed on 16 shots for a beauty save percentage of .750. Now don't get me wrong, the team played like absolute **** today and he's not the reason we're in the bronze medal game, but again, we just don't have anyone who can play well when wearing a Canadian jersey.

The D has been awful.

The D has been awful.

Not just the D. As Bobby Mac put it, a total fail from top to bottom. From the coaching to the goaltender. Still though, my comments were more of a general assessment than blaming it all on Subban. We've seen plenty of times where Canadian teams have played as well as the US team has today and lost due to the opposing goaltender stepping up. Wish we could say the same for once.

Anyone still watching the third today will see what I'm talking about. For about 10 minutes straight, the Canadians were outplaying the US, getting lots of quality shots, especially on the PP, and Gibson bails them out over and over again. Canada now over 30 shots on goal, with only 1 scored. 4 goals on 16 shots is just.

Quick to point the finger at goaltending after the last couple of years, but the team as a whole didn't show up today. You can't pin this on Subban.

100% agree

Canada came out flat and the US dominated from the opening whistle.

Can't wait for next year when Subban is the starter and everyone *****es despite this loss being out his hands. Didn't see the first 3 goals.

Havent seen the game yet so I cant comment on Subbans play for this game. However if he was the same as the first 2 games then I can see the issue with his play.

He strikes me very much as a tender who will be average. Stealing the occasional game and looking like the goat for few. Doesnt seem to inspire confidence in his team.
