It's not an excuse, because they are talented enough to win regardless (if MacKinnon wasn't such a bum playing with no emotion), but Makar definitely would've made a difference tonight. You can't replace his shooting threat from the point, would've massively helped crack the US's solid defensive structure.
Say what you want about MacKinnon but playing with no emotion? That’s absolute nonsense.

Game was a toss up overall in chances, USA just converted once more. Teams are very close in talent level but Canada's lack of offense from defense was noticeable. Makar, especially as a a goal scoring dman, is in his own tier amongst all dmen.
In terms of overall chances Canada definitely had the edge. Canada had at least 2 chances identical to the Larkin goal but Hellebuyck made it look easy.

McDavid had the same problem he often used to have in Edmonton: the play dying as soon as he put the puck to the point.
Yeah, very little creativity from the blueline tonight. Makar is obviously a huge loss, but even Theodore and Pietrangelo would've helped a lot.

I might be a homer, but Canada looks like they could've used Thomas Chabot tonight, needed someone who can make plays from the blueline (Morrissey can, but he's not enough).

You are not going to win many games when you score only one goal. I know a lot of Canadians are blaming Binnington for this loss, but Canada did not get the job done offensively. Credit to Team USA for their stellar defensive play overall. Marner was terrible in this game, along with a few others. Hoping Canada can avenge this loss in Boston.
