Did you watch this game? He was great defensively.

To be fair, the American defensive structure was indeed impeccable and Matthews did play his part in that. He did nothing offensively though. So if the standard for your best player is to be a 3rd line center, I guess he did great.

He was not awful, but to say he led his team is a stretch.

Canada was slow tonight. And I am not talking about skating speed. The decision making speed is as important as skating. There were so many chances missed to make a good pass that were made too late or not made at all - it was just like a sore thumb. You can't win over an equally good team like that.
